Title: Clicking noise from engine + Video Link + Pic of Previous Work
Post by: Mertyvw on May 08, 2013, 07:18:37 pm
Hi Guys ive got this noise coming from the engine, i cant seem to work it out where it is coming from ive been under the bonnet and under the car nothing visible or vibrating its around the engine itself i think. here is a video link where someone has had the same problem its exactly the same noise in the background of the engine noise.

Has anyone got any ideas wat it could be ? I dont have a VAG-Com But if i got someone to check do would anything come up or does it need a Mechanic(Stealer) to look at it

Much appriciated

EDIT
Image below is when the works were done back in August 2011. If it is linked to that i am thinking now whether i can get them to fix it ???

Have a look at the auxilliary belt and the pulleys on it, whilst someone else revs it. Specifically the alternator pulley, tensioner, or the belt itself.
Look for excessive movement/bouncing of the tensioner.

It's a start anyway.

EDIT: I had a tappet noise on my BKD, ran some Wynn's Engine flush through it (purple can) and did an immediate oil change. The noise never came back.

Sounds like valves.. Inlet or exhaust Tappit clearance or are these hydraulic lifters?

I had a similar rattling from the engine which turned out to be the alternator tensioner, pulley + belt being broke.

Video of what mine sounded like last year, if its any help -

I think my would be the lifters. As ive researched the noise im getting is very similar to them. Ive checked my alternator and that are it all seems fine the noise if coming from the top back of the engine after using a tube to listen to where the noise is coming fromZ

Well i got it booked in at 8am in the morning and if they confirm with me it is lifters i think i will need to flush the engine an renew the oil
