Title: Paintshop advice.....
Post by: ArildStavrum on May 10, 2013, 09:08:32 am
Looking for a bit of advice, I recently purchased this: (r32 rear bumper with left hand exhaust cut out)

http://www.ppcgb.com/GTi-Exhaust-R32-Look-Rear-Bumper-with-Reflectors-VW-Golf-Mk5/prod18540

I want the top half of the bumper tornado red to match my GTI and the lower centre section black.

I also got some black non textured side skirts so that i can colour code my gti.

A paintshop who came highly recommended has priced the work at £440 for cash!

I couldnt beleive it was so expensive, they are only painting half of a rear bumper and 2 sideskirts.

Does this seem overpriced? or am I wrong in thinking it was going to cost around £250?

I'd alloy 200 for bumper at least for a decent job. Also, the textured side skirts are a lot of work to de-texture. I'd say about 350 would be more reasonable. Hth.

Thanks mate, the side skirts are non textured. The original price was 530!! I nearly fell off my seat!!

I paid £340 for front splitter, sideskirts and rear splitter to be painted. Granted he did it in the wrong colour originally, but he is redoing it. I'd say you were overcharged.

Does that include fitting?

For just paint, I'd allow 2 - 250 for the bumper, and 1-150 for the skirts.

Remember he'll have to mask up and mix paint twice for the bumper, 3 times if he clear coats it all after both colours are on.
