Just went for a blast in my ko4 gti. I was in 4th dropped it down to 3rd and boom. Car just sounded like it exploded. Looked under the hood and found my inlet manifold to have holes all over it. 3 big holes that I can see bout the size of a golf ball. Why the hell would it do that. Holes are on cylinder 1, 2, 4. Wtf

Did some valves depart aswell??

You sure did :sad1:
Very weird, and I've never read of this happening unless like I say something's let go inside.
Hope it's not too expensive.

The focus RS has a weak inlet manifold and known to explode. Haven't heard of any GTI's blowing one though
-
Did the car originally have a ko3?
-
Yep k03 originally. The car still runs but sounds like a tractor. So hopefully it just needs intake manifold
-
How recently was it converted to a ko4? The ecu needs to be remapped for the ko4.
-
I'd be surprised if its just an intake manifold required, I'd be looking at what caused it, or perhaps what's broken causing the 3 holes :scared:
-
It's been ko4d for bout 1000miles. It's had stage 3 revo map uploaded by aks. I just had it rolling roadbed today actually and it made 356bhp and 333ft t. The car runs but sounds terrible. Imagine if you disconnected a boost hose and then run it. That's wat it sounds like. So hopefully new manifold and all will be ok
-
Wow...356bhp. I didn't think the AXX/BWA could handle that.
Sounds like a catastrphic failure...rods, pistons...?
-
To tell the truth seen as I'm not talking to the misus now. I was in 5th and accidentally hit 2nd when ment to hit 4th . Dnt ask how. Being an idiot springs to mind. It was only a split second before I depressed the clutch but that's when it went boom. Excuse the first message but I didn't want to come across as a an idiot :signLOL:
Ps we need a sign with a face with a gun to its head. :signLOL:

If you've went to second instead of 4th i'm surprised it still runs! id expect the damage to be a lot more than an intake manifold chances are there's probably a rod through the block
-
The wife'll be really pissed when you cancel the summer holiday to pay for the engine rebuild :scared:

No rod through block thank f**k. It still runs so I think I'm lucky. I need dsg :signLOL:

You said what we are all thinking
-
I would be amazed if it didn't need a rebuild.
-
Compression would of gone through the roof doing that. Could well of smacked a few valves and debris has exited via the intake mani. Sounds like that could be an engine out jobby there. Best thing to do is get a borescope in there to investigate before any more damage is done.

LOL

Sounds Terminal.. To make holes, something Metals gone thought it...that'll be something internal given up.
As its been said, I would use a scope to view inside before going to the expense of an inlet manifold to find out the engines toast. :happy2:
-
Sounds like you would be better off finding a new engine rather than spending money repairing your old one :surprised:
-
LOL, ducked comes to mind. new engine needed.
