Title: resonated...or not??
Post by: smithen999 on November 29, 2008, 02:32:36 pm
apologies if there  is a conclusive thread on the above question...but i cant find it!

whats the general consensus on this?

i know peoples tastes are different - but what are the differences to the standard unit?

i'm looking for a cat back pipe which is only slightly louder than stock..the mrs will kick off if its loud!!

If you are looking at Milltek then you'll want the non-resonated cat back as it's a little louder than stock.

I had the res on my ed30 and the only time it was louder than stock was when you booted it

Non res FTW!!!  :jumpmove:

It really is a Jekal and Hyde. If your takin it easy it's nice and quiet, but when you floor it

Definitely non-res.

Its not intrusively loud AT ALL. Only when you boot it, does it get loud - and even then its not chavvy at all!  :driver:

I am still "Natalie Imbruglia" on the res vs. non-res, heart says non and head say res

It defiantly seams the non-res is louder on the ED30's than the GTI's (when comparing the likes of RR vs. Greenouse's for example)

have you thought about the APR exhaust

Milltek Resonated TBE .... just like standard but slightly louder when at higher revs booting it  :happy2:

I haven't got one but have been out in one - and didn't remember he had the full TBE until he asked me what I thought !!

I would have one - and I hate loud exhausts for everyday cars.  The only car I really enjoyed a straight through exhaust on was my TVR Griffith 500 .... now that was very loud but sounded         x100

I had thought about it...is it any better / worse value & quality than the miltek?

to be honest they look better finished than the Milltek and are a similar price, its down to taste really, they do sound different, you really need to hear both

Yeah mine is a full non-res Milltek but it is a little louder than normal for some reason or other! I bloody love it, it sounds the dogs bollocks if I may say so myslef. I was unsure whether to go non-res or res but I know have definately made the right choice. NON-RES ALL THE WAY  :jumpmove: :jumpmove: :jumpmove: :happy2:

I've just ordered the non resonated pipe, so will move from resonated to non resonated :D

Hopefully I'll be in for a bit more noise but still managable :)

Non res on mine, i love it but still think the gti has one of the dullest sounding 2.0t engines out of the hot hatches
I know the astra vxr is a chavs hot hatch and i would never buy one but they do sound lovely with a milltek or remus and they pop and bang when you let off the loud pedal. A bit like a rally car but not as loud.

my scooby used to do that, spat flames aswell when you built up all the fumes and let it rumble down from 3k revs

....The Milltek Resonated version has the middle section of the exhaust with a silencer box.

The Non-Resonated version has a straight through pipe in the middle section.

The two components are interchangeable.

I don't know what it is with my exhaust but it seems to sound different than most!  :jumpmove: If I let off the loud pedal after giving it the beans in second or third as soon it gets to about 3k it starts to pop, bang and grumble, anyone else had this?  :rolleye:

Normally it is a sign of overfuelling and the fuel igniting in the exhaust.... not good for the Cat...

....It's always very diificult to describe sound. The Milltek Resonated is just a bit louder and consequently brings out more of the sound's qualities - a tad deeper/growlier but it's all very subtle and only gets louder than stock as the revs climb.

Personally I find Resonated too close to stock in sound level. You can hear a mature Non-Resonated Milltek all the time inside the car but again not loudly until you use the loud pedal.

Neither are even vaguely 'boy-racer' or coarse sounding.

HTH :happy2:

That clip isn't of an APR exhaust - I don't much like it to be brutally honest - sounds too 'metallic'.

What a sloppy driver!! One hand only on the wheel and in the worst position.
