Title: OEM VW upgrade speakers?
Post by: Dave J on May 20, 2013, 05:44:18 pm
Hi all,

Looking at improving the basic sound system in my ED30. NOT impressed with the standard spec RCD300 system - found out this weekend my car has the 8 speaker system too (and I thought it was the 10 speaker one).

Was going to fit a Kenwood DNX520VBT, but have now decided the funds from this HU are better spent elsewhere, so have an RNS waiting to go in.

I realise the Kenwood will have a better amp than the RNS, so will have a better impact on the standard speakers, but does anyone have experience of the VW OEM upgrade option speakers on their mk5? Only ask as I had a set of the VW upgrade speakers installed into my old mkiv and I was very impressed at the improvement for a manufacturer install. Got those speakers for a good saving over RRP, and I have the option of a set for the mk5, hence my query...!

Not sure I want to go aftermarket (not keen to start messing with adapter rings, harnesses, etc), but if anyone can suggest a plug 'n play system for similar cost, then I'd appreciate that too!

Cheers,
Dave

I fitted them in my last mk5 which had the 10 speaker system. Marginal improvement over 'standard' but not worth the effort, though they were much improved with the addition of a small amp.
