Hi all
I'd like to retro fit my existing head unit in my Ed30 with the VW RNS sat nav system system or something very similar which is reliable and easy to use.
I have a few questions on this.
Which model is the latest or best model to fit.
Is Ebay a good source pr are there any other outlets?
I've heard to stay away from Chinese units?
What parts are needed ie is it just the head unit....is there anything else I need and do I have to get someone to code it in??
Is this an easy job if I just buy a unit from Ebay
Is there a good or similar after market unit ie Alpine, Kenwood and what price are these?
I want to use my Ipod so do I need any leads before I fit the unit. My old I pod connector was in the glove box....does this simply plug into the back of the unit whilst installing it or is a front jack point?
Do I need to uprate the speakers?
Sorry for all the questions

Hi,
The A and B Versions are LCD models, The C upwards models are LED.
A/B pricing around 350.
C upwards models are around 450 +
Ive bought 2 off ebay, had no problems, however if you want a new unit, There are members on here who can supply them. (Eddie_NL is the main man)
Stick with original VW.
Just Head unit is needed, straight plug and play and make sure it has the GPS antenna with it, Or one can be bought off ebay for under £20
You can get an MDI cable for the RNS unit, AUX and Ipod.
No need to upgrade speakers.
If you have an older canbus (pre2008 model Golf), you may have to update it, or make sure a modified Firmware is installed on it to prevent the battery from draining.
Hope that answers everything for you.

You can make the existing aerial fit but it is a bit of a faff, buy the Fakra cable instead as it's simplyplug and play :)

Thanks......I managed to get a great deal from my local VW dealer on a new Kenwood DNX 521 DAB with Ipod cable and fitment.
