Title: Fuel Consumption
Post by: Biano44 on May 21, 2013, 10:35:08 am
Hi,
I drive around in my golf all day and when I'm not in a rush I can achieve 46mpg max. Yet, when I'm cruising around in my better half's Jetta (2008 2.0 140 tdi DSG) I can achieve 56mpg.
What the heck is that about then? What would cause 10mpg difference?

Ta.

Rich - I think GT TDI 170 mapped to 185.

Bian044

Are you running 18" wheels, whats the service history like, when you say not in a rush what sort of distance you you driving and the average speed.

For instance. My GT 170 with standard 17" Classix wheels, based on a daily commute of 90 miles 20 of which are on A roads the rest traveling 70mph on a motorway i achieve 46-47MPG - 500miles to a tank.

Hey,
It's a 2.0 TDI, 140bhp but mapped by R-tech but it was even worse before I took it. The Jetta is standard.
My golf has now covered 26000miles, 11000 in the last 6months. It has full VW service history.
I wouldn't have even noticed if I'd not bought the Jetta but I did and I have.

Thats pretty poor for a 140bhp!

Yes, pretty poor.......but why?
Could it be the MAF or the sensor?
The wheels are standard Classix so it's not that.

Scanned it? Anything said to you when they re-mapped it? Also what type of driving do you do and what speeds?

R-Tech scanned it, no signs of anything a miss. Eddie NL has scanned it several times since and nothing was obvious then either.
I do a lot of motorway miles and average 44mpg on a normal day.
Pootling around is when I get the biggest difference.

Just looked through the scans hat Eddie did and found this........

1 Fault Found:
000833 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
               P0341 - 000 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
             Freeze Frame:
                    Fault Status: 00110000
                    Fault Priority: 3
                    Fault Frequency: 6
                    Mileage: 34315 km
                    Time Indication: 0
                    Date: 2000.00.00
                    Time: 11:52:00

Could this effect anything?

if the camshaft sensor is reading incorrectly engine speed will not be correctly relayed to the EUC possibly causing fueling issues as the mapping will not be correct for the given engine speed

my 140bhp tdi highway used ~62MPG (65mph)

Fuel consuption affected by wheels size, air filter, oil change interval

How many miles does the Jetta have on it? Maybe your car still needs to loosen off a bit , 26K is nowt for a diesel motor.

The Jetta has 63000 on it. surely thats not the reason.
