Hi
Anyone ever fitted something this wide to a mk5 GTI 18x10 et38 Oz Futura 5x112
The fronts are fine as there 8.5" but I'm worried about the rears.
-
you can fit but must be 215/40/ or 205 45 tyres
-
I think they would be close but i recon they would fit... what are they on the back 9? 9.5 ?
205 or 215 40's or 35's would probably help

it's 18x10 et38 215/40/18 Falken 512s (air ride)
-
I wish they were 9" or 9.5 but there 10"
Adriano, how is the poke, they stick out a bit but look good
Thanks

Has that had much arch work? Looks like it would work with 225s, just that the arch would sit on the tyre instead of the rim when dumped?
-
I don't want to be doing arch work. Can't decide if I like poke or not. I suppose its like marmite love it hate it mmmm!
-
Honestly unless you have air and are prepared to ruin your arches you won't get 10s working.
You can't add enough camber to properly tuck the rear because the inside of the wheel/tyre will hit the strut.
And because of the width they will poke massively.
Further to that Falken only permit a 225/40 on a 9.5, I think on a 10 the smallest tyre you can use is a 235 which makes it pretty illegal in terms of, if you DID get pulled up on it..
In a word, no.
-
No such thing as "illegal" stretch (although you might attract unwanted attention from the boys in blue). You can have illegal amounts of rim poke (think it's 25 or 30mm outside of the arch, while the tyre tread itself has to be within the arch.
-
Whilst it isn't illegal, you'd better be sending a picture of it to the insurance company to see if they're happy about it - because I know of at least 3 cases of people getting refused payouts following tyre failures and accidents.
Probably best for the showground only.
-
Thanks for all the advice, just going to try and mix and match and get a 8.5" rear which will be flush. Just going to cost a little more.
-
uk illegal streach ???
-
Few people in the US rocking 10" rims...

Thanks for the link, they look good. Think its a little to much poke for me though. I wonder how much that sort of poke would effect the handling. Just a thought as I love to drive the car, anyone know what effect it would have?
-
sensitive steering and greater load bearing
-
Why do ppl constantly feel the need too waste the perfect look and handling off the golf mk5,if you want the beach buggy look then buy one, rant over,i mean 10" rims :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: :fighting2:
-
It's just a look. People may like that look, I don't understand why people keep their cars standard but wouldn't ever mock someone for doing so. :happy2:

Not true.
Tyre manufactures approve a certain width of tyre to be on a certain width of rim.
Falken have always been well liked within the "scene" community for decent tyres which actually grip relatively well, and stretch very well.
They were the only (I think maybe Toyo did as well with the T1-R) manufacturer to certify a 225/40 tyre on a 9.5 rim, much to the joy of the VW community in general.
If you were pulled over, you could produce the data-sheet from Falken and you would be good to go. Police could not do you for anything.
HOWEVER, if, and I'm only being really picky here but it's completely true, you fitted a 205/40 onto a 9.5, and this was NOT certified (which it isn't), then technically you have fitted an innapropriate size tyre to the rim against the construction®s (or some other far unknown rule) and this would be illegal.
Stretch in itself is not illegal. It's fitting a tyre outside of the manufacturers specification which is.
As for poke you are allowed 30mm from the furthest point of the arch outwards to the furthest edge or lip of the rim.
