who has had there front end repainted and how long was it before you was looking and finding chips again. I debated getting the front end repainted a while ago and decided to leave it and after cleaning the Ed 30 today from a distance she looks lovely but up close ,I aint happy
The plan is to have the wings , mirrors, bumpers and bonnet painted . It goes into VW for its service and MOT friday , im going to get a quote then get the wheels refinished

Technically, adding more paint will make the paint softer.But you are the same as me, up close you know the chips are there, but without going down the respray route, its all about either filling the chips with touch up stick and wet sanding to blend it .
I would think around £500 for a full front respray would be around what I would expect to pay. :happy2:

I got quoted £400 for the bonnet, both wings, bumper and splitter. That included new paint on the grill and two tone splitter.

I dont mind the cost , It just needs to be perfect .
Do I ask for the bumper to be removed and it painted in its component parts like splitter off and the washer jet covers done separate ?
I am happy to remove the bumper cover before I take her in if the paint shop have issues same with wing mirror covers .
Back bumper has always been scratched it looks like someone dropped a bag of shopping on it while loading the boot so do you remove the parking sensors and split the bumper or just paint it as a whole part .
Would you then get the rest of the car valeted ?
The wheels we have Lepsons sort of close and they collect .

Cheap jobs will mask and "blow over" paint when bumpers etc are on the car - you really don't want this. Never turns out a good job.
Wherever you go, make crystal clear you're expectations re quality of finish and how much stripping down you want done so that you don't have masking lines etc. That way, you have a comeback when he's done something you told him not to.
I'd split your back bumper down in the separated parts and remove the parking sensors - makes for a better job.
Depends on what you mean by valeted? To most folk that just means a wash, dry and Hoover inside. Tbh, after all your paintwork, I'd be tempted to drop it in at one of your local detailers to get your car looking like new!

I would contact one of the great detailing boys on here to see about how long you need to wait for a clean/valet/detail is carried out on brand new paint.

^^ should be ok to do straight away. Remember they machine polish it anyway during the flatting process.

If it's a water based paint (which 99% are these days) you can do whatever you want with the paint as soon as you get it back from the bodyshop.
They say solvent based paints need a few months to "gas" however I would be very surprised to find anyone using solvent based paints since the late 90's.

Shame they don't use solvent based paints these days. Water based chips so easily :(

^^^The voc's are particularly nasty though. Much nastier than a few stone chips on my stupid car.
There is a big picture out there which unfortunately most of us cretins give little or no thought to.

If stone chips are that much of a problem, have the paint fully corrected and have some clear-bra or 3m clear vinyl professionally applied.
Or drive round with 3434 tape on for the rest of your life.

as a painter theres only one way to do it and that's strip it right down, ie bumpers of , mirrors of, and bonnet, and inner arch liners from the front wings. but one thing you can't get away with is things like when refitting the bonnet, you burr the edges of the bolts that hold it on, yes you can touch them up after but theres no way round it imo properly. when i did mine recently i even removed the front doors so i could get right in the back edge of the front wings, if you don't you can leave a dry edge as they blow throught the gap, and also get overspray on the A post and alike, the water base system dosn't make it any better or worse neither, there's only water base paint (the actual colour) all water base paints have a solvent laquer over the top. theres no such thing as water base laquer.
