Hey
I have a Kenwood DPX404U Double Din in my mk5 TDI golf which is working great the only issue is the CD player doesn’t power down when I turn the ignition off.
Does anyone know why this might be? I have to manually turn the CD player off as I exit the car.

You need to take a switched live from somewhere to your stereo loom, or buy a CAN interface box.

Any guides? or links?

Not on laptop to find a link, but there will be many on the internet.
I'd run a cable into the drivers side fusebox, use a piggyback fuse adaptor thingmy on a switched live fuse and that way no cutting of factory wires.

You want to run a wire from the switched live at the back of your head unit (pretty sure its normally yellow). I used the 12v remote cable you get with an amp (just make sure its the same thickness). After you've done that you want to use one of these (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ADD-A-CIRCUIT-FUSE-TAP-PIGGY-BACK-BLADE-FUSE-HOLDER-/321088781277?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4ac261fbdd (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ADD-A-CIRCUIT-FUSE-TAP-PIGGY-BACK-BLADE-FUSE-HOLDER-/321088781277?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4ac261fbdd)) and run the cable to it. You then want to use a voltage meter to test your fusebox for a 12v that only comes on when the ignition is on. Once you have found it simply pop the fuse tap it and you're good to go. It shoud look like this once you have done.
