Title: Question for rim whores...
Post by: tony_danza on August 07, 2009, 07:44:59 pm
What's 18x8, magnesium and weighs in at 7.6kilos a corner?

.

.

.

OZ Motorsport tarmac wheels, obviously. Need a good refurb, but they're sound and straight, so they're going to end up like the last pic.

5x114.3 ET48.

As the face is so thin, the brakes are no problem clearance wise (have offered them up) and there's scope to have them welded and re-drilled if I don't want the wobble bolted... but as I've no issues running wobblers, then I may as well go that route, depending on projected prices.

They'll be white with VWR blue decals.

Yep, pretty much that exact colour combo, Jonny.

I'm not that fussed what they look like to be fair, they're just going to be track slaggers, but I have a feeling they'll look kinda cool - that'll be a bonus!

They'll look very individual and distinctive, Mike, whether track slappers slags slaggers or not. :notworthy:

Not at all, I spotted an ad on Pistonheads in the Motorsport section. I trawl stuff like that and other motorsport/rally classifieds looking for the odd interesting bargain - sans 'scene tax', as they say... ebay and forums for the most part are a rip off.

I was looking for Jap fit magnesium centered BBS, the Holy Grail of wheels. I know someone that has a few sets, but won't part with them - mainly because I'd just want 4xfronts.

....Personally I don't trust eBay either, but I'm curious why you say that forums for the most part are a rip off.

Those BBS with the gold centres are fabulous!

Just scene tax Robin, your common or garden stuff is fine, but anything with an ounce of rarity seems to double in price as soon as it lands on a VAG forum.

Usual trick is to get a few key people to talk something up, go to a few shows and be seen/scene, then sell them for a rediculous amount of money a few weeks later in the hype. Usually to some kid who gets up to their eyeballs in debt trying and play with the big boys and so it goes on and on...

I'd prefer to simply get back what they owe me and sell them to someone who is going to use them for what they were intended.

Thanks for that Tony, I have seen "scene tax" quoted a few times but was a bit ignorant as to the meaning! :ashamed:

Deako, sadly I won't be on track on the 5th - I'm away, damn it. Theyll have to be saved for the C-GTI Trackday Tour end of season, preying for Cadwell!!

Will see if i can make the end of season wherever it turns out to be. Would enjoy giving the Mk5 a blast on a proper track.

Decal mock up done, ordered and they're en-route. The blue doesn't look right on here, but it is the same as the VW racing blue.

Deako, yeah - I'm gutted to be missing Curby, it is such a great day, whether you're driving on track or not.

If anyone's thinking of dropping in en-route to ED38 on Saturday, do.. it'll be the most fun you've had in yonks! Proper dirty, grass roots motorsport FTW!

Do the "Racing" text in black? VWR also use it in black.

I did toy with the idea of all one colour, and if they were my road wheels I would tone them down - but they're not, so sod it!
