Title: what do you clean/feed your leather seats with?
Post by: paulw123 on May 28, 2013, 04:24:38 pm
i've been using AG leather cleaner and then balm on MY2008 seats. It looks good when applied, but 2 days later it leaves a dry white powder on the surface...dooh.
what have you guys found to work the best?

I use either this (http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Britemax_LEATHER_MAX_1.html) or there's a full kit here (http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Britemax_Leather_Care_Kit_1.html).

The VW leather is treated/coated in plastic so any "feed" will just sit on top of a plastic layer rather than be absorbed. Just use dilute APC.

cheers guys, i guess that is exactly what is happening, its just drying on the "plastic" surface.
Gliptone is ok on this surface?

There is some sort of "magic eraser" that you can get that is supposed to work well on the "leather"  :happy2: PM Greeners.

It's AWESOME.

I wonder would it be powerful enough to erase the memory of some of my, ermm..., less attractive 'conquests' (lol) over the years.

Another vote for Magic Erasers here, some pics on my thread.

All you do is put on in a bucket of water, rinse, then wipe. Is mildly abrassive, so treat after with some leather conditioner.

Very happy with results.

As already mentioned modern leather is coloured and then sealed so any form of leather feed/conditioner will sit on top and actually attract dirt which in turn will create an abrasive paste. This is what over a period of time will make your seats become shiny. Keeping modern leather in great condition is simply a case of using a good leather cleaner along with a microfibre, or if they are very dirty then use a leather brush to gently agitate. Be careful with the magic sponges/erasers on leather - some use them to good affect, but they are abrasive and may cause advanced wear and even remove colour.
Have you looked at the Dr Leather products?  Specially developed for the best possible maintenance of modern type leather - http://www.attention2detail.com/brands/dr-leather & if very dirty http://www.attention2detail.com/race-glaze-leather-brush

Ben mate that stuff is £21 + £3.99 delivery   :scared:

How about the collinite http://www.attention2detail.com/collinite-no-855-liquid-leather-and-vinyl-wax/ , I like their waxes, and more my budget.

The Collinite 855 is also a great product although not quite so easy to apply. It acts very slightly different in that it is more an 'all in one' type which offers cleaning abilities whilst providing a Matt finish coating. It's still ok to use on treated leather as the coating is not a greasy style feed that will attract grime, but will offer surface protection.

So i'll be ok with the collinite 855, it won't dry up all powdery like AG leather balm?
Is it better than the Gliptone that others use on here?

In AutoExpress reviews the 855 and Gliptone both received simular scores. although both great products, they are difficult to compare as the 855 is an all in one whilst Gliptone, also sometimes referred to as the Gliptone twins is used with second conditioning product.

Take a read of this info....it applies to most modern car interiors these days. Very few still use natural type hide unless specified on extremely expensive vehicles.
