hi all,
had the car with VW in the last couple of weeks for a new wing (good old free rust replacement) and while it was there had the brake fluid changed.
anyway when they rang to say the car was coming back the service manager told me they hadnt been able to bleed the n/s/f as the end of the bleed nipple had previously snapped off. - they charged me less because of this and have said no leak so safe to drive but recommend changing the bleed nipple/caliper in the future - but my questions are
1. should they not have bleed all the brakes, not left one?
2. after finding the part number on this site i know the bleed nipple can be bought on its own and is cheap, should they have asked if i wanted them to replace it whilst they had the car up and were changing the fluid anyway?
3. how do i change the bleed nipple. i know this may sound stupid, but i presume i would have to clamp off the hose to the caliper first? never changed one so have no idea. I nut portion of the nipple is still there, just the top part is gone.
any thoughts appreciated

They should also do the ABS Purge / Cycle with VAS, but they couldn't have if they didn't bleed each caliper... iirc it's part of the VW guidelines during a brake fluid change.

thanks scottymon, what exactly does that do?

Removing the rest of the snapped nipple shouldn't be too hard! Drill it out until an "easy out" will fit in it, then unscrew it. I'm very surprised VW didn't replace it!
-
Anyone else had this problem? And should VW have replaced it to complete the fluid change, just miffed as it means try didn't bleed that caliper but did the rest
-
Am I the only person who has had this? :sad1:
Edit: Photo if the offending item (top of pic)

Ridiculous that they didn't sort it. No point even doing a brake fluid change without going through all 4 calipers. That nipple should still come off without issue. I'd go back and demand they change it and re-do the brake fluid service

Car is going back on the 17th as I have an aircon issue as not cold cold even though just had a recharge through them. Always thought I had a leak as each year had to recharge it to get cold again but this year hasn't lasted 4 weeks.
Going to ask them to look at the nipple then. Can anyone confirm that the nipple definitely unscrews and not part of te caliper?

Yes that nipple is removable and will cost pennies.
They should have fixed it, you'll need a rebleed once it gets replaced - they really should do this for you FOC since they screwed it up.

Thanks Skard good to know!

Also your bleed nipples should have rubber covers on them, to keep muck out of the hole a.nd stop the nipple itself from rusting.
Unless you removed it/them for the photo. VW should replace them.

Nope I've never touched them so thanks for the heads up
