Are they the same size? I read it somewhere but can't locate, that someone used a Mk4 rear badge took apart the Mk5 white wormed one, primed/painted/lacquer and stuck the Mk4 badge ontop.
Just wondering if anyone has done this, as Mk4 rear badges are a whole load cheaper than the Mk5 ones currently on eBay. Plus I like the idea of keeping the slow close if poss.
It will be for a Mk5 MY2005 GTI if it makes any diff. :happy2:

That's what I did, it does fit fine :) (I didn't do the best job of it but looks better than the whiteworm) (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F13%2F05%2F30%2F8erunane.jpg&hash=fdb601531c6a83a2747a4f72a66ddec3cba8daf9)

Hey mate, I have a mk4 boot badge sitting at home (removed to fit the Sharan badge years ago). PM me an offer and I can have it in the post tomorrow. I'll try and put up a picture if you're interested.
I also have a painted Mk5 badge but it's painted Sage Green (background, still the same chrome 'VW') and I can't remember if it's slow close or not. Not looking for much for my mk4 badge. :happy2:
I'll throw my tuppence in for advise; I think people have been painting the original one piece mk5 badge, all over, then sticking the mk4 chrome 'VW' lettering on top of it. Would look like you had a two piece beadge but with no whiteworn and keeping the slow/soft close.
You'll need to seperate the mk4 boot badge from it's black background first (obv).
Hope this helps. :happy2:

I have done this a few times with variations. First tried a mk4 badge but wasn't that impressed as it doesn't have any rolled edges so didn't sit as well I would have liked. They won't sit over the edges of the base like the current metal whiteworm badges do - just on top. I also just used vinyl on the base instead if spraying. Either way you need to fill the top hole on the base as it is visible when you pull off the ok whitewormed badge.
The other option is to cover the whiteworm badge in vinyl or spray it, then stick a 3D badge on top - or just wrap the badge and leave it as the flat badge, like the carbon fibre one in the for sale section
I have found that the generic vw 100/110mm badges you can get off ebay for about £5 are pretty good. They come with tape already on too.
Another alternative is a scirocco badge which would give you the mk6 beveled style badge.
Here are a few I have done to give you an idea of the side profiles with badge still in place and badge removed first

Or just wrapped once whiteworm sanded off

Hope that helps :happy2:
I'm working on a special incarnation at the moment where I get a mk5 3D badge to fit done over the base just like the whiteworm badge does, involves plenty of Dremel use though :happy2:

Hey, thanks for the replies, a big help! :happy2:
At this point I think I'm pretty tempted by the ready adhered ones, are these the nasty versions you describe above, are there better ones?:

For my reference and anyone dropping via Google, how to remove rear badge: http://www.r32oc.com/topic/15523-mkv-colour-coded-boot-handlebadge/

^^ is that the right size for the handles though?
-
my friend picked me up one from a mk4 golf lastnight - its all 1 piece with like a rubber back/side?
does anyone know is these fit?

There are better ones like this seller - they also have ones without the black piece so you can see through the spaces. Various sizes but the 105 is the closest. The whiteworm bases are 110mm so these will not go over the edge of the base

That link is only for the mk5 3D badges. The whiteworm versions are stuck on with a tab on each side so need to be prized off :happy2:

You can fit them yes, but a it above post it will sit on top of the base rather than over the base (at the edges like the original badge does) :happy2:
