Probably need a new can gateway too
-
I was hoping I wouldn't need that what does that actually do anyway sorry if I sound like and idiot all the stereos I put just had live and memory and you was done :signLOL:
-
You will probably have battery drain without
-
bloody he'll are these expensive and is it stealers only and do they have to be coded to car and so forth
-
Im sure ed can supply them
-
right will wait for ed to come on line and see what he says are they all pain to fit
-
I've got one of these on an 05 and unless its been upgraded you would need te canbus upgrading to a newer version. These don't have Bluetooth built in, I see you've said you get a Bluetooth cable but do you get the Bluetooth module and mic? You would need a GPS puck to pick up a GPS signal and a fakra aerial converter to get your radio signal. Also they need coding to the car with VCDS

If you can supply the parts yourself you can get it installed for under £1k (think mine came to around £800 and then paid Eddie to fit).
Dealers don't know that the can gateway can be upgraded and if you tell them they don't believe you nor do they code stuff in (a few do but the majority don't).
They do need coding to the car

bloody he'll this sounds like it's going to be a long winded an expensive job may as just buy an aftermarket one which I can fit my self by the sounds off it

Its not really that hard...
Only certain CAN gateways can be "FLASH" upgraded.... its only 65quid for a latest version. :happy2:

right so if this the case I have got an rcd300 fitted what's parts would be needed to retrofit this rns510 to my golf as don't want to be ordering the wrong parts sorry guys for being so thick can't believe how hard these are to fit

RNS510 Unit
CAN Gateway (probably... but you need to scan your car and check what version you have. 7N0 907 530AF
Satnav Aerial.
Possibly an aerial adapter.
:happy2:

For the RNS to work:
Fakra aerial adaptor
GPS puck
Can gateway (as you've for an early car)
Then if you want Bluetooth a kit off eBay which will include a wiring loom, Bluetooth module and OEM microphone. There's lots of different kits available depending of you have a highline dash or not but generally a 7p6 or 5k0 kit is best as it all works through then RNS. If you want highline options then a deifferent kit will be needed.
Then you just decide if you want full iPod control with an MDI kit (~£125 for loom and mdi) but this will replace the existing cd changer/iPod dock.
-
you will need to swap the black earth wire from postion 2 to 3 on the cd changer plug behind the head unit or you will get poor sound & you will need a aerial adaptor for the twin plugs on the rns510

bloody he'll i am getting confused I think I got gist off the aerial adaptor for the radio and the sat nav antenna but do I need a blue tooth aerial as well not bothered about nice really just want to stream music from phone
