Couldn't ask for a better manufactured and well put together car.
I think I might have to recommend the Jazz as a future alternative to the GTI.

Is this the start of your proposed forum war?

I never intended to start a war....it's just my observation. :innocent:

Honda do make the finest N/A engines. FACT. :notworthy:
Interior quality isn't as great as VW and some of the lower spec cars are a little boring. You rarely hear of suspension bushes failing and other component problems like you do on this forum.
Overall they are better manufactured.
Looking forward to the new Civic Type-R in 2015. Knowing Honda they are taking so long to perfect it, rather than release something full of teething problems. Hope it has stronger DV's than the TFSI
Rumour has it, it's a 1.6 turbo (probably with vtec as well )
-
Let's wait and see how reliable a Honda Turbocharged engine is of the same class.
The 2.0 VTEC engine was canned because it can't meet Euro 5 regs, a lot of time for a car maker to be out of a particular market although I wouldn't like to say how important this particular market is for Honda.
Comparing a smaller NA engine (Jazz) to a 2.0 Turbocharged engine isn't the fairest comparison as it has inherent reliability advantages.
It's partly the price paid for having some of the latest engine technology on a road car.
I've been a passenger in a CTR FN2 and the interior seemed fine to me...it didn't rattle which is a good start but not as polished as the VAG group.

I love my Honda

But I still wouldn't swap the golf for a civic

I got beat by a Civic Coupe Type R last night. TBH though I had him until my high 4th gear, bloody power drop off.

Google says otherwise. Sedan is probably what I meant.

Whoa,whoa,whoa....this thread is in danger of becoming a serious proper discussion.
Let's just maintain the status quo with Honda cars being shopping carts,Barrymobiles and dodgems for the elderly.
Except for the Jazz...any car manufacturer that calls a car aimed at the more senior parts of the population(really should have called it the Swing, but the connotations are too much) after a musical style that lends itself to a New Orleans funeral, has to be full of Humour, right?
i like Honda. They've got a good business model and make almost everything that has an engine...apart from Helicopters.
-
^^ I disagree though.
S2000, NSX, Generations of fantastic Type-R's (especially the JDM ones ).
You can't ignore that. . .
It's like saying vw make fantastic rep-mobiles (passat, Jetta etc) and ignoring the Golf GTI
-
But all jap cars have disgusting interiors and that's what puts me off them.

That's not a type r, as said no such thing
The Type-R Honda's from the mid 90's were some of the best drivers cars money could buy, whilst VW were making the MK3 Golf GTi which at best was average.
Unfortunately recent Hondas have gone back to being fugly and dull as ditch water, with the blue rinse brigade taking over ownership again, real shame.

The dash of the FN2 (2006-2009) type-R is awesome. Two teir with digital speedo, VTEC light and LED's that count you up to the red line / shift point
It's seriously futuristic and a nice place to be.

I'd hardly call that blue rinse brigade.
-
Not as raw as the last civic type r I worked for Honda and had 2 of the last shape pre face lift and face lift and was going to buy the new one so took the demo car for the day and it was rubbish just not as good

I had a facelift in Grey and then a Championship white edition newer model(with LSD as standard) and that was a hoot to drive. CAR magazine got it round Bedford nearly as quickly as a Focus RS. :surprised:
The older one was more raw but people like the creature comforts these days, Cruise, dual zone etc. The latest type-r is much more fun that a GTI IMHO but not quite as "polished".

They did make a four door version of the Civic Type R in the FN2 guise though, maybe thats what Raffe is thinking of?
-
If it was a light gold coloured coupe, around the Manchester area, then I know who owns it and it has a 'charged Type R engine in it. Along with a fully working S2000 dash.

I know about the FN2 saloon as a good mate has one which I have driven a few times :happy2:
I'm being picky, but there really never was a Civic coupe ever made by Honda. I'm a big Honda fan and have owned a Civic SiRII, Integra Type-R (both DC2 & DC5) and a supercharged 30AE CTR and was part of the owners club for a number of years prior to its demise.
The MK5 Golf GTi turned me back on to VW as the MK3 & 4 were outclassed by many other manufacturers IMO.

I must say that the dash design is quite unique and I was surprised when I saw it for the first time.
The seats held you in place and the driving position seemed lower.
I quite liked the 19 inch Rage wheels as well.

I test drove an FN2 Type R GT the other day and I really liked it. Coming rom a forced induction car the engine feels flat unless you rev the nuts off of it, but interior, exterior, 8500rpm and the handling all put a big smile on my face, much more focussed than any VAG hatch IMO. Would love one with the supercharger conversion. A smidgeon over £3k puts it at 300whp. add another grand to that and it'll be running 350whp and low 12s on the strip.
This makes me laugh though

:pomppomp: my thoughts exactly right there. I've been in a supercharged one, such a rush before the Vtec even kicks in
The championship white ones with the LSD are the ones to go for. I cannot stress how much better it is with an LSD. The one at Crewe Honda is pretty smart
