Title: Home made terminal tool!

I managed to break the connector to my fuel pressure switch whilst I changed the fuel pump cam follower last week and not wanting to buy the bespoke tool to remove the wires from the connector I've come up with a cheap solution which works perfectly and is available on every High street in the country.
A nit comb!!
I've removed a few tines to the correct distance apart which allows the two remaining tines to slip down the sides of the connector releasing the crimped terminal end. I've removed the middle two from a block of four and will then remove a few more to allow free access to the centre terminal. The only thing to watch is if the tines pull out of the handle.

I have used a paper clip previously but this seems more reliable.

Wow great idea mate. I've done the same with my plug, where did you get the replacement from? And the wires?

Should be able to release the original loom wiring from the broken connector but if that proves difficult, the repair wires will slip straight into the new connector once the purple lock tab has been slid out.

The only problem I foresee is when my wife finds out what I've done to the Nit comb. Better go to Boots later!

That's the one. Mine was spun 180 degrees round so the clip part easier to see. Even more stupid that I broke it!

Hi Tortaruga; My daughter (10) has had Nits - the girls get them more than the boys from sharing hair - brushes, clothes etc. fortunately there's no Nit issue at present. The school sends out notes when there's a problem. No one is blamed but we all know they originate at the soap-dodging Pikey family on the estate.  :signLOL:

Is the nit comb to remove the terminals from the old clip? Or help fitting new ones? Sorry bit dumb  :sad1:

Supposedly nits prefer clean hair, whether that's said to make the scummy kids feel better I don't know, lol.

The terminal release tool (Nit comb model) is only required to release the wires from the plug. The terminals just click into place once the purple Lock tab is removed. Repair wires are just in case a terminal breaks and can be used for a number of different plugs.

Precisely.
A little tension on the wire as the tool is inserted should ease it's passage out of the back of the plug.

Since doing my cam follower I had broken the clip, now all fixed.

Used one of my wifes many bobby pins!  :smiley: Just cut the ends off, worked a treat.

So you didn't use my Nit Comb technique?! :confused:

If truth be know the hair clip method was what I used the very first time I had to remove a terminal but I thought I'd improve upon it with the comb. Funny how they are both 'hair' tools!!
