....of powder-coating my wheels black with a polished lip.........
Has anyone done this? Any pics?
My concerns are the black wheels look smaller, and it might make my car stand out too much, but in fairness it might make it look quite 'rude' if you know what I mean.
Any help much appreciated
...or I might just leave it how it is?

Here's a pic of my pescara's powder coated gloss black :happy2:

Do you mean like the european Ed30 alloys below. If so, I like! :happy2:

^^ I think they are also available as a VW part if you choose new rather than refurb. I recall Auto Express had them put on their test Ed 30 a couple of years ago and sourced them as an aftermarket dealer fit.

The matt look/polished lip is exactly what I'm after but with the UK ED30 wheels

....
The matt black with polished lip is exactly how I'm thinking for my original Monza 17s. I'd use them for Nurburgring.
I never got around to selling my 17s after buying your 18s, Oil.

Yo Toast..
How much did the powder coating cost?.
Cheers, Gulf.

I think matte or satin looks best, any decent refurb shop should be able to turn the rim to polish it too, best to seal it with clear powedercoar too.
Basically, you'll end up with these.

Not a fan of ''dark'' alloys but those BBS look mint.

something like that?

I kind of wish I had that done to my pescara's when I had them powder coated :sad1:
But instead I am going to do something else with some more OEM style wheels

I've just dropped off my OZs to be re-done in white this morning, that's costing me £200. It'd be a fraction more with the polished rim and shifting tyres on and off, but that's a ballpark figure - I wouldn't pay more than £300 for sure!!
However if the wheels are straight and don't require anything fancy, like polished rims, try a local powdercoaters rather than a wheel specialist. I got my BBS RCs done for £100 at a place in Macclesfield (Greenspeed) a few years back and they came out fantastic. I haven't used them this time as I needed someone who knows how to seal magnesium properly, but coating is coating on normal alloys... save yourself some money.

why do some manufacturers use powdercoating instead of paint? i had some sportec mono wheels and they where powdercoated, but after a while they chipped all round the rim from road grit etc.
-
It's a hell of a lot tougher than paint and cleans easier.
If they don't do it right, it doesn't bond, goes brittle and chips as you found out.

sportec factory job, would have thought they would have got it right

Mines cost me £170 all in and that was refitting and balancing the tyre's took them 2 day turnaround :happy2:
-
Decided to keep the wheels standard at present, I really like the fact that the car looks standard (to an untrained eye).
