Does anyone have experience of going from an Ed30 dsg to a BMW auto? I've always been tempted by a 335i but most seem to be autos in my price range
-
I have just bought the manual version which is very good. Not very helpful though I know..........

The older step auto?
It's ok, better than a slushbox, but not as good as the later DCT. Added bonus us a quaife LSD is much cheaper for the step. Suits the engine though, as it's linear and torquey.

I will chip in and say that it feels very much like a GT car the 335i, definitely suit an auto. So if you are after more of a sports car I would try and find a manual and do a couple of choice mods to bring out the animal in it ;)

As stated by tony, the new box is a peach I have it on my new 535M sport and it is just phenomenal! I have had a lot of dsg cars, r32, GTI, Ed30 and Roccos all in DSG and the new BMW box is in my opinion a lot better, just seems quicker and a lot smoother in all settings. Hope this helps, but as stated I am aware the older boxes aren't as good.

Thanks guys, what year did this new box come in on

I think it may have been March 2011 (sorry edited to say 2011!)
-
Actually it may have been March 2010 LOL sorry
Ok I reckon 2009 gets the 7 speed DCT and then 2011 gets 8 speed :signLOL:

Sounds about right, although I think the 8sp only found its way into the F-generation cars.

What autobox does a 2011 e90 335d msport have? I know it's 6gears but is it a normal slush box?

It's Steptronic so it will be a slusher. It uses a Torque converter as opposed to a plate.
Heard it's a sturdy unit but I don't know if it will be the same level as DSG or DCT though.

Suits the car perfectly, I don't have a problem with it but some do, mainly people who like to think its an f1 car. It changes gear quicker than you could in a manual and is very smooth in drive.
