If these figures are correct, then the little AMG is going to be a proper monster once fettled (providing there is headroom in the engine/turbo). Race looks typically staged though (like most media drag races) IMO..
* Warning - Annoying tosser in action *
-
I agree looks staged towards the end, the higher displacement of the CLS63 should have reeled the A45 in and passed but who knows...
-
Dont care how fast it is... it looks crap.
-
Very impressive figures out of the box from Mercedes. :happy2:
-
I think it looks ace. Definitely better looking than the M135i. Think the RS3 has it on the looks dept though. Looking forward to seeing what its performance potential is.
Its direct competitor has to be the RS3, so im keen to see how it compares to that in the handling dept. Both Merc and Audi arent exactly famed for having cars that handle amazing. I reckon when BMW release the next 1M that it will no doubt trounce the pair of them on the track.
-
I dont think i have ever seen a Merc on track come to think about it, has there ever been any mercedes produced that could be fettled for track outside of the cars built for comps.
-
But there has never been a car like this released by Merc though. This is new territory for them. I cant imagine owners of these large exec AMG cars would be happy shredding the rear tyres and fueling 6 litres of engine on a trackday.
-
Nice looking car, but I think I prefer the look of the CLA45 AMG...

Front end is very similar to the Volvos Polestar's i think.

^^^
Looks lovely, everything about it does. I did like the look of the A class when it come out but the more I see them the more they remind me of the Volvo C30 or whatever they're called.
EDIT

Please don't ruin this car for me too... :scared:

saw one today (non amg) had to laugh at is sad boring rear.
-
Ugly in your opinion it may be, but boring? I don't think that's a fair comment, compared to the GTI/s3/1series the rear end design wise is anything but boring.
-
IMO
Just not for me, I prefer the 1m, rs3, gti's conservative rear end lol
The c63 amg I think looks awesome, think its these rear lights that put me off.
I'm talking about the cla btw, the a class amg I love
-
I quite like this little car, styling like the 1-series is better in the metal, engine looks a peach (if a little highly strung?) and that interior is fantastic - I wish I could have buckets like that in mine.
Price ouch. Haldex not for me. Be interesting to see how it compares to the new 1/2M & RS3 when they arrive.
8.5/10.

Pinched from elsewhere, a summary (a little slanted too)...
Top Gear - http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/merc ... -2013-6-12
"No. As I alluded to earlier, the A45 is more closely aligned to the RS3 than the M135i. It likes to grip and go, it’s chief aim on going into a corner, is getting out the other side as quickly and efficiently as possible, not making the most of the experience on the way through. It’s a less mobile, less interactive car to drive than the BMW, and that will upset purists. But it is masterful in what it does and what it’s capable of. Personally I’d like the engine to have more character and the rear axle to get stuck in a bit more. To have more feel, in other words."
Auto Express - http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mercedes/a ... es-a45-amg
"Even though AMG has reworked the steering set-up, it still doesn’t have the immediacy or feel of a BMW M135i’s steering."
Auto Car - http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/mer ... nz/a45-amg
"There’s lag, of course – you can’t expect 178bhp per litre without it. Accelerate at 1500rpm and you’ll be greeted by not a great deal. By 2000rpm the A45 has woken up, and by 3000rpm it’s delivering a strong mid-range. Only above 4500rpm, though, does it begin to feel like the 4.6sec to 62mph car it’s claimed to be, in a short and heady rush from there to the engine's 6500rpm redline. "

Pricing was announced in a press release yesterday. Starting from £37,845. :scared: Aero package £1530 and AMG exhaust £510. It will be a £45k car once the necessary options have been ticked.
-
Aren't most powerfull amgs rear wheel drive tho and have stupid torque so skid out at every corner. This car sounds like it's amazing. awd so even better than 4x4 and tons of power. Remap should see that close to 400bhp! That's insane. 10years ago people were amazed if you had a 200bhp tyre r or mk1 focus rs and you were considered very fast. Now the same class of cars are reaching nearly double that fairly easily. Find that brilliant. Does thus means when my son is 17/18 (2 at the mo) hell be able to drive a 600 bhp hothatch lol

a lot of car though after 3 years of depreciation wiped off it.

Sounds pretty fruity for a 4 pot to be fair..
Apart from the swarm of crickets under the bonnet of course..

^^^
Sounds great out of the box :happy2:
Love this A45 AMG  Can see it as my next car in about 3-4 years :happy2:
Also really like the CLA45 AMG :happy2:
-
Sounds like a TFSI engine under the hood! :signLOL:
-
Sounds glorious, must have the AMG exhaust option ticked on that one?
-
Already runs 1.8 bar, so I'd say the turbo is already being pushed out of the box by AMG.
I reckon the revised EA888 engine in the MKVII Golf R at stage 2+ would tune past a stock AMG and be lighter in the process.
-
Anyone know if there are still plans for a 3dr A45?

Anyone know if there are still plans for a 3dr A45?
No so if you want one 5 door only :P

How do you know? :P
There was definitely meant to be a 3dr A class in 2013. The original concept was a 3dr. Hmm, guess it would have to be an S3 or Golf R after all.
-

Nope.. The optional exhaust is 4 pipes not 2 IIRC.
-
Found this for the performance exhaust.

Sounds like the Hulk gargling with nails. :scared:

Saw my first CLA on the road today. What a stunning car it is. If i had to have 4 doors, id go for the CLA instead of the regular A class. The rear lights are immense, look like butterfly wings when they are lit up.
