Title: MFSW installation
Post by: n17chm on June 12, 2013, 10:42:38 pm
Is there any coding required to fit MFSW buttons to a stardard cd player?

No sat nav or media (iPod in centre consol)

Yes, you'll need to tell your SWCM (steering wheel control module) that buttons are there via coding. You may or may not already have a high end module, you'd have to check the part number.

if you have dsg with paddles it will be a straight swop without coding

Yes I have DSG with paddles, so I can just fit them and it requires no coding?

In that case I stand corrected!

Can vouch for this - Kalu fitted MFSW buttons to my '08 ED30 with DSG - no coding was required, but he did scan for faults after  :happy2:.

As my car only has the midline display, the VCDS shows an error as I still have the original wiper stalk, which has the MFD menu rocker switch on the end of it. The car sort of gets confused (I think) as it has a feed for scrolling the MFD display also via the MFSW controls.

If I ever find a set of highline 974A GTI dials, then I hope to have the stalk changed at the same time to eliminate the error.

Still, love the MFSW buttons - always found the reach to the volume knob on the mkv a bit further than it was in my mkiv, so a very worthwhile 'mod'!
