Title: Candy White Edition30 - Airlift Performance (Big Update)
Post by: GTI.Dav on June 13, 2013, 08:34:50 pm
Had my Edition for about 2 months now so thought it was about time I make a quick thread.

After searching the net high and low everyday for a few months I finally found what I was looking for! It popped up for sale in Cardiff. Candy White, completely standard and absolutely immaculate! It was owned by a guy in his early 60's who did next to no mileage so only 17k on the clock.

Came with a good few options..

Xenon's
Sunroof
Lux pack
Winter pack
Rear Sensors
Auto lights/wipers
Highline
MFSW
Armrest with iPod dock

Anyway here's some pics...

Had the rear diffuser sprayed satin black. I'm really pleased the way its come out. Think it really makes a difference.

Got some fresh plates, stuck the stubby aerial on and finally got round to giving it a polish and wax.

Plans over the next month are Coilovers, ITG, and wheel refurb. Then after that who knows what will happen

Thanks for looking  :happy2:

Very nice...

I was watching it for sale on Autotrader a good few weeks ago and even made a call to the dealer in Cardiff as it was such low mileage but it was already sold to yourself!!

Bought a lowish mileage black Ed30 a few weeks ago which was going cheap. Like you I'm in the process of sorting out the way I want it.

KW Clubsports and a big brake kit firstly followed by APR Stage 2+ and a diff.

Checking the Internet every few hours paid off!

As soon as I spotted it one evening I emailed them to say id leave a deposit subject to viewing etc. Luckily i did because by the morning they'd had 6 other people wanting to buy it but gave me first refusal.

Sound like you've found yourself a good buy. Plans sound good too!

This looks a cracker.

Wrapped look diffuser and some decent extras give it a lovely OEM+ look. I still don't think CW Edition 30's have aged much at all.
Like it  :happy2:

Thanks for sharing - wow, what a great condition & spec ED30 you have!
Absolutely lovely - just shows there are a few low mileage gems out there. Made the trip to Cardiff for mine too - well worth travelling for the right car!
All the best with it!

Thanks Dave.

Yeah it was defiantly worth the wait and the travel. Seems quite a few people have found there's in Cardiff.

Little update...

After debating what coilovers to go for, they finally arrived a month after ordering whilst I was on holiday.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2FCuba50420.jpg&hash=f4645b7bafa92e3e7533611fa5c31370c31d62e5)

They're Apex RDX a pretty mid range coilover I think. I've always had AP's before, not heard a lot about these apart from a few good reviews so thought id give them a go.

So arrived back from holiday Friday and the Edition was sent straight off for them to be fitted by a friend. After abit of playing around here's how she's sitting..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2FCuba50620.jpg&hash=554d63d1f61d89cb66e902d6ee583fa84d6dd750)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2FCuba51020.jpg&hash=d83b67ba413565dbfcef317394bc8b7002b1c287)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2FCuba52220.jpg&hash=6682a097a6bebf17353b94b629ea2bd2caa86726)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2FCuba53120.jpg&hash=a4d8bb4c65d30496fcb41a6a3286703161e3f7dc)

I'd like to get the back down a bit more but its as low as it will go. Ill probably order some 15mm spacers for the rear to get it sitting better. Apart from that I'm happy with the outcome, looks so much better low.

Its also in the bodyshop this week for a few touches!

Thanks for looking.

Intake arrived at the weekend. Decided to go for the Evoms V-Flow.

After much wrestling with the engine cover, I got it fitted..

Looks great but I have to say I was expecting abit more noise. Especially after I was told it was the loudest out there. Still sounds great though and feels a little more perky!  :driver:

Quick update..

Decided I wanted the rear sitting abit lower for a few upcoming shows. The Apex were as low as they would go so managed to source some FK Silverline's. Just swapped the springs over (no adjusters) and this is what happened..

(black mark on paintwork is on my iPhone not the car)

Massive difference between the two in regards to ride quality. The FK's are a little neck breaking lets say, but I suppose it doesn't help being that low either. They will only be staying on the car till end of October then the Apex will be put back on for the winter.

I was going to get it detailed but in the end decided to do it myself. Clay barred the whole car, sealant was applied and then waxed etc etc. Took me a good 9 hours but I enjoyed doing it and the results were well worth it!

I don't have any paintwork shots yet as there all on my camera but here's a couple of phone pics of her looking all shiny for Edition38.

Down to the quality of the kit Dav. I've been out in KW Ultra Lows and Still Static, the Kws were sat at about 80mm down and the Ultra Lows 120mm, the ride quality was absolutely fantastic. The difference between paying £400, and £1500. Love your car though, looks great! Very clean too!

Just a little update with some pictures since having the air fitted..

Not a lot else to update on at the moment. Summer wheels are in the process and a few other bits in preparation for the show season.

A shot of the boot. Didn't want anything fancy just a subtle install. Dual compressors are hidden underneath raised boot.

Picked up some TTRS brakes this week

I've heard different answers in regards to what size spacers I need to run to get them behind the pescara's. Can anyone confirm?

Bit of an update.. Had the TTRS brakes fitted at the weekend along with RS braided lines. Big thanks the Alex at AKS for fitting them  :happy2:

And behind the pescara's.. JUST

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2Fimage-14.jpg&hash=b7ff6a53c3b290d342ec240c7fc4e65f7b11bd4a)

Also bought some genuine helios last month and had them refurbed last week in a light anthracite grey. Very happy with the colour it's exactly what I wanted.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2Fimage-10.jpg&hash=32b8d963d291734d6b78b974a830da5c10e63b08)

No pics of them on the car yet as only the fronts are on as we speak. I was asked today to be inside at Ultimate Dubs at the weekend so it's going to be a mental few days to get the car ready  :scared: Hopefully have some good pics to post after the weekend

Here's one last pic before the wheel change

Yeah 12.5mm. They just, just fitted! So tight that I had to remove the wheel weights because they were rubbing on the caliper lol. They're made by Bimecc from Awesome GTI.

Had 5 hectic days last week preparing the car for Ultimate Dubs at the weekend.

Finally got all the Helios on, last Friday and after a small bit of front arch work managed to air out all the way down. Strangely sits a little lower than on the pescara's too!

Also had a two day detail last week which has bought the paintwork out lovely. It's not perfect but much better than it was

Ha I wasn't actually trying to promote the GB as we already have the 10 needed. But after a good look round your car I realised you were still rocking the standard system and felt bigger tips would improve its overall look, either way if you decide you want in just let us know! :happy2:

I only ran spacers behind the pescara's so the TTRS's would fit otherwise I didn't. Tyres are 225/40 on them I think.
Thanks man really appreciate that. What's your Instagram?

12.5mm but it's ridiculously tight. Had to remove the wheel weights as they were rubbing on the caliper so I'd recommend 15mm. It never rubbed but I didn't ride that low and also only ran the spacers for a week before I changed the wheels.

Were your arches rolled? I just can't fathom how your wheels were able to steer when on coilies, It seemed very low.

Also were the helpers in on the front coils or not?

The arches weren't rolled and still aren't now  :signLOL: It was fairly low but not unable to steer low lol. There was still a fair amount of thread left on the fronts. It occasionally rubbed if taking a corner fast.

Thats alright then, I'm basically just trying to replicate the stance you had on the coil overs. Do the Apex have helper slings, and did you leave them in?

Update on lots of bits and bobs...

Very chuffed to have picked up two awards in two weeks for the Edition

Last weekend I came away with Top 20 in Show and Shine at GTI Spring Festival and yesterday came runner up in best MK5 at Early Edition. Still in shock especially after yesterday's award.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2Fimagejpg3-1.jpg&hash=4dc54091466847984742e3193e83d3437c6b9f16)

Last week was time for the dreaded yearly MOT  :scared: Happy to say she passed with flying colours and with no advisories.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2Fimagejpg1-1.jpg&hash=e0e5a61ae47a67a2c57f1447c8bcd6079c0fffd0)

Few new parts too. Firstly the GTI seat inserts which I've been meaning to buy since I bought the car. Actually surprising how much of a difference they make when you open the door.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2Fimagejpg1.jpg&hash=6a9cd4bb33e2c51c5378e967dd6ab5a25566345c)

Genuine shark fin aerial, but only a dummy version. Who listens to the radio anyway! This isn't fitted yet as it's been sent for paint.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2Fimagejpg3.jpg&hash=ac542856a1e8df5f0ec585488ae93887bc04ce23)

Also ordered the black washer and coolant caps from Alex at AKS to change the bright blue ones.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fs298%2Fdav_100%2Fimagejpg2.jpg&hash=1f264e033ad03304bac522254dbeb73a81dc80d2)

A friend of mine has the VAGCOM software so had him plug my car in on Friday and code in the DRL's. I love this simple mod!

Now for a few proper pictures!

Last weekend after one year of ownership  :drinking:

wow looks perfect, well done nabbing that one  :happy2:

About the rear diffuser, did you get it wrapped or painted?

Im toying with the idea of getting my silver Ed 30 either carbon or black wrapped on the front lip & rear diffuser.

P.s if anyone has any pics of an example can you post links?

Cheeky photo theft from Instagram. Looking killer. Even if people are trying to copy your entire look it's never gonna be as clean as this. That's enough arse licking done for a bank holiday  :signLOL:

See you next Friday man

This is stunning, nice car!
