Title: Severity of Vibratechnics small mount...
Post by: berg on June 14, 2013, 09:06:46 am
had a final round of mods put on the car yesterday (i know, i know) and as I already have THS lower engine mount was not expecting a massive diffrerence with NVH through the cabin/pedal but blimey.... its like being in a diesel truck!

does the mount soften significantly or is it just a case of taking the dash apart and checking every screw/nut is tight as can be?

Mounts tend to get less harsh/soften with mileage. Give it a thousand or more miles before deciding if you can live with them.

I had all 3 done, took about 2000miles before they softened up. Only time I notice it now it when the car is cold makes it sound like the engine is in the cabin at times as the revs are higher and the dsg box holds it at the biting point (or what ever you call it on dsg) at junctions. Disappears after few mins.

Not entirely sure what happened to be fair the rubber was worn pretty bad not sure if the garage didn't put it in correctly or it was just a faulty mount. I have another ths mount so will be keeping an eye on it. :happy2:

I've heard the Revo mounts are a little more pliant.

I have the VF Engine and Gearbox mount (which is what the BSH and Revo mounts are just with their names on and Revo paint them black)  in my Octavia and the lower Revo one which is again a VF just rebranded.

They are a little harsh on cold especially between idle and about 1500rpm. But once warmed up they are fine and on normal driving not much louder than standard. Even at motorway speed you have to turn the stereo right down to hear them.

However floor it through the gears and its just    :driver:. A lot of people don't like doing the mounts but I love mine. Makes the car sound like it has a more meatier engine than it does.  :happy2:

i've had the VF lower engine mount for a while. i was a little worried at first with the increase in NVH but part of it will be because you are actually looking for a difference because of a new mod, and part of it will be because it needs time to soften up. mine must have been on for nearly a year/7k miles and i genuinely don't notice it EXCEPT for a tiny spot in the rev range in 2nd gear when it's cold.

I had Vibratechnics mounts in my mkiv - I did think 'what have I done' when I drove it for the first time.
They did quieten down, but I was never happy.
In terms of driving feels, they really sharpened the mkiv drivetrain, but in terms of acoustics, they were noisy. Fine for a track car, not for my then daily drive.

Hope yours settle in a bit, and that in 2k or so, they feel / sound better!

yeah main issue with mine is centre dashboard rattle. if i can take those panels off, tighten any screw and sound deaden the touching bits of plastic that will make a massive difference so going to have to give it a go first and see how i get on
