I've tried searching but can't find specifically what i'm looking for...
I understand that the cam belt requires replacement at either 4 years old or 40k miles.
My car is now over 3 years old and done almost 7000 miles so I guess I will fall into the 4 years old replacement criteria.
Has anyone had this done and what was the cost? I will be using a VW dealer. Is is an engine out job?
Thanks in advance

slightly different car as mine is a tdi-i got mine changed at 34000 miles as it was 4 years old..mine cost £350 with tensions all in incl vat..the cambelt is changed with the engine in situ

The service schedule should be in your VW wallet :happy2:
In the longlife service schedule booklet it says that the cambelt should be checked at 60k miles for 4 cylinder engines without a prescribed change interval. It then goes on to say that at 120k miles the camshaft drive belt should be replaced for 2.0ltr 110kw & 147kw TFSI models only. I started off on the longlife service regime, but changed it to a T&D regime, so don't have anything on a given length of time for the belt to be changed. Don't know what it would be for a diesel either!
Interesting thought though, I'm having my engine replaced for one that is 20 months newer, so would I adjust the service regime to suit?

My supplying dealer charges £299 for cambelt changes. I'm going to get mine done at a specialist, they'll look after it better and charge less.

Is is recommended to have a new water pump stuck on at the same time? I'm guessing that will be a further £160 or so

....Also recommended to have a new fuel filter too. And make sure the whole cambelt kit is renewed, not just the belt - Most dealers are aware and do this.

It mentions that this is for the 147KW engine. Since when has yours ever produced such a tiny amount of power.

Yeah, but there is no mention at all in the booklet for anything else

I got screwed for around £450 for my cambelt change (no they didnt use any lube!) but having tried 3 other local VW dealersips they all quoted about the same, I think being on the outskirts of London (Surbiton) is not good for labour rates :sad1:
