Hey, just wandering if getting a chip will improve mpg , few people have sed yeah ,but some have said no ,
Cheers .

No because the boost is addictive, going from 210lbft to 280lbft+ transforms the car and you'll want to feel the push in your seat all the time.
However, if you can manage to stay off the throttle then yes they are slightly better, but if that's your only intention then it would take a long time to recoup the benefit.

Depends entirely how you drive it.
-
Agree with the above
-
Mine was exactly the same after a remap, but as said above you want to drive it harder and your fuel ends up getting burned quicker
-
You could have it mapped specifically to improve fuel economy, rather than increase torque etc.
-
Does anybody bother to read the section before they post anymore. Two threads about the same thing on top of each other!!!!

I thought those type of Eco maps are generally available for diesels rather than petrols?
The GTI will run at lambda 1 (lean) if your light with the throttle (FSI mode) and produce 40-45mpg. You've got to be committed though (and its a boring drive). ECU only allows this for a short while as this method of running creates a lot of NOx.

Stone chips are the worst... Doubt it will help MPG either
Seriously tho. A good remap won't reduce fuel econ

No mate, dimples improve the drag, kinda like a golf ball. Mythbusters tested it on a car!
