Title: My Frozen white Focus ST2 mk3
Post by: mortygttdi on June 24, 2013, 03:19:46 am
Hi guys I've had my ST2 for about 2 weeks now only just gone over the 500 mile mark but she was well mucky so thought it would be a good time(fathers days) to sort it out.

I went up to Halfords as they have 3 for 2 on still with the cleaning products so went to try out the G3 Faracla stuff got the clay, super resin wax and turbo detailing spray.

Any way first up some dirty shots

And before the car was cleaned I took each wheel off and cleaned all the arches and wheels and brakes, I used a Poor boys bold and bright for the wheel arch plastics and Poor boys wheel sealant for the wheels and calipers

Then onto the car I first washed it just to get all the grime off then onto the clay and detailer to get the contaminates off, there was quite a few metal shavings on it (I presume from been stored next to the docks) so the clay got this off, then another wash to get the clay and detailer residue off, then a snow foam to get any lingering bits rinsed then dried and finished off with super resin wax which was really nice to use and brought a nice shine back to the white.

Must admit I didn't know what to make of them when I first saw one but they are growing on me fast, seen a couple of estates now and really like those, yours is stunning by the way in that colour.

What kind of power are you getting from the ST on Supperchips?

I like em but I couldn't live with that steering wheel :signLOL: but I admit steering wheels do seem to bother my more than other people, I really like the estate look they have gone for.

I test drove an estate and quite liked it.  Was very surprised to find that it had less boot space that a Skoda Fabia(estate v estate) as well as less passenger room as well.  Really shocked me considering its meant to be the next class of car up and it put me off slightly as i was thinking of the bonus of having more space

The old ST used to have 345mm brakes (R32 style). These brakes look similar to Mk5 GTI  brakes  :stupid: looks like ford have downgraded  :sad1:

Other than that, looks like a great car   :happy2:

Had fantastic reviews too

How are you finding it to the VW Darren?

At the moment Jake finding it to be considerably better than my golf, but there is a couple of things and one of them is in fact has what JHTrophy said, the steering wheel, it doesn't feel big and it does have a good feel but its bloody ugly as sin  also the seats have no tilt or lower back adjustment, although they are very comfortable. other than that its a massive improvement over previous Fords.

Looks great Darren :happy2:

What kind of power are you getting from the ST on Supperchips?

The Bluefin is quoted has 280bhp and 330lbft torq, but the big thing is there is no torq limiter in 1st and 2nd  bit like the turbo hot hatch's of yesteryear :rolleye: the ESC has 3 settings and can be turned completely off which is good, the handling is brilliant and you can feel the rear end tuck itself in on quick corners. I've not felt much oversteer

Yes 320mm on the new ST and yes the calipers have changed and did used to be the same calipers has per R32/S3 but they look more like a normal type caliper now

I found it had a lot of torque steer though.  Was great fun to drive though.

Just watch the brakes on trackdays  :scared:

There is Sy yes apparently and I don't know why but Ford have engineered a certain amount of torq steer into the drive...its something to do with the torq vectoring control or something? Ford BS!! its easy to control and you get used to it.

Sy I like how you think I have the time to go on track days :happy2:  hopefully attending the green hell at some stage this year though but we'll see?

I actually found out that the I/cooler, injectors and inlet are all grabbed from the RS mk2, the engine is stronger and more tunable, a simple TBE, panel filter and stage 1 bluefin will see just short of 300bhp - 370lb ft torq

The probably reverted to a "normal" caliper due to the old ones weighting the same as a small elephant!

Seen the meet on FocusSTOC its only round corner from me and one of the mates goes there all the time on his bike so might well be there.

I think the frozen white is the best colour, although my opinion might be biasee. I nearly purchased an ST but opted for the Titanium instead. I love the chassis on the new Focus as it does give excellent feedback. Dont suppose you fancy cleaning mine for me as mine is filthy since the house move :signLOL:
The car looks excellent and I shall be getting a bluefin for mine of the MP200 pack now Mountune do 0% finance for 18 months

its a decent gathering really mate,  the convoy in is a site to see.  well over 40 st`s and rs`s in a line on the m1 looks awesome.
iv had mine 2 years now and still love driving it,looking at it and the positive attention.  just hope they give the next RS the same flair as previous 1`s but think i may keep mine though because of the 5 pot sound.

And you cant beat abit of mountune warranty friendly magic

Brett don't know if you've been in the new ST or not but it does sound nice from the inside which is all im bothered about when driving it  I do miss the sound of my old 5 pot ST  nice decat and milltek. But the new one isn't too bad.

ill keep my eye on the meet thread over on focusSToc

Very nice! As stated you have the best colour choice there, still don't see many of these around which seems odd given all the good reviews.  Just reading autoexpress group test and the st beats the mk7 gti and the Renault megane.  I think ford missed a trick not making a 3 door focus, I will be interested to see if ford make the rs and whether that will be 5 door aswell.

they have a sound symposer like my Rs i think bud which makes a nice sound in the cabin, i tried mine dis-connected and it was like an electric car it was that quiet haha even with a mongoose  :surprised:

and i agree they do sound good, quite good infact  :happy2:

you got any other mods planned bud?

i think ford have in a way tried to make it more family orientated? With a 5 door hatch and an estate no 3 door it does show in the insurance has mine halfed coming from the vxr and the golf gt tdi  i was shocked when the women said £400 for the year...

Brett yes the ST is the same mate in fact it takes alot from your RS, a couple of things i found out since owning it, the intercooler and inlet and the clutch plus a few other things. Not got much else planned until the options plan comes up for renewal. Then ill either keep the car or go to the RS if its out or maybe even try something else.

It wasn't too bad a drive back, but it's well filthy now what with people having Bon fires all over the place, not even bonfire night yet :stupid:

Not been able to drive it since it's been done, the Monday after it had been done I had an op on my shoulder due to a frozen shoulder so no driving for up to 3 weeks. The better half is driving me every where :happy2:

Need close ups Daz. :happy2:

Just for you John I'll get some sorted, I did get some better pics this afternoon but not had chance to do anything, had another viewing on our house today, hopefully our new house will be built before June :happy2: I'll have a nice garage to put it in and keep it warm.

This selling houses lark is exhausting

You should consider fitting the lower engine mount insert from powerflex. I have fitted one to my Ecoboost and it does make a massive difference to the car. If you look at the rear mount it shockingly allows for loads of movement in the engine. I now have next to no movement with hardly any vibrations in the cabin. I'm thinking I will get an estate ST next year once I have purchased a new house at the back end of the year. Loving the new wheels :happy2:

Already on mate, along with milltec decat and stage 1 bluefin, h&r springs next. From others with the same mods it's running around 290+bhp - 360 odd ftlb

Nice one :happy2:
I'm looking at the airtec intercoolers for my car. Looking at the results they bring the intake temps down loads more than the std intercooler.

I'm going to stick with stage 1 but add the mountune intake and IC.   I don't think it needs any more power.
As for handling I love the balance of comfort and handling so won't be changing springs. I will be doing the bushes, let engine mount, rear arb and a LSD. I'll also be getting the brakes uprated at some point probably before all the above.

I have since fitted the engine mount fitted to the efocus from the states. It is a solid rubber mount so there are no vibrations transmitted into the cabin area. Gives a much nicer feel than the powerflex bush insert.

Post away! Love RS4's - saw a nice red Avant on the M4 on Friday in the traffic - sounded lovely...

Nice Focus by the way Morty - looks very clean. Superb colour display in the instruments - interior looks very good indeed

It's a great car but day to day running you need a share in bp lol
That's why the golf is such a great car
