30th Anniversary Golf GTI Coming to New Zealand
Just 30 examples of the Golf GTI Edition 30 will be available. The Golf GTI is the icon of compact fast cars. For its 30th birthday anniversary, Volkswagen is now offering the special model Golf GTI Edition 30.
The Golf GTI is the icon of compact fast cars. For its 30th birthday anniversary, Volkswagen is now offering the special model Golf GTI Edition 30. The performance of the 2.0 T-FSI engine has been increased by 1 bhp for each year, meaning that the GTI Edition 30 has an output of 230 bhp, or 169kW. Torque levels are also up to a very useful 300Nm.
The design study of the Golf GTI Edition 30 developed by Volkswagen Individual had its world premiere in May 2006. Since then enthusiasts from all over the world have sent their compliments to Wolfsburg with a clear message: the vehicle must be built to those exact specifications!
The optical appearance of the study was, therefore, maintained; its main characteristic being the matt black 18" "Detroit" alloy wheels. Further features are the front and rear aprons and the side trims in the vehicle colour and also the cherry red rear lights.
The interior has also been designed to celebrate the vehicle's anniversary: the leather elements of the sports seats are combined with the classic GTI ‘Interlagos’ checked design fabric in the centre. Further elements are the red stitching on the three-spoke leather steering wheel, the gearshift lever gaiting and on the handbrake lever. Red Edition 30 lettering can be seen on the door sill and the deco strip ("brushed aluminium") above the glove compartment. Foot mats with red edges and, of course, the gearshift lever with the classic golf ball design fulfil all the birthday wishes of the loyal fans from all over the world.
Dean Sheed, Volkswagen General Manager for New Zealand, is expecting the limited supply Golf GTI Edition 30 to be snapped up extremely quickly: “The Golf GTI has been Volkswagen’s little success story in New Zealand. In 2005, its launch year, we delivered 199 Golf GTI’s even with supply constraints. This year to October, 266 have been sold. It has simply been a runaway success, surpassing everyone’s expectations including our own. The unique features of the Golf GTI Edition 30 – 169kW, matt black 18” wheels and other detailing – will just add to what is already a highly desirable car.”
The limited number (only 30) of 3 door Golf GTI Edition 30 will come equipped with either a 6 speed manual or DSG gearbox. Whilst pricing is yet to be confirmed for New Zealand, specification levels will be similar to the current Golf GTI. In addition there will also be a 6 CD stereo system, electric driver’s seat adjustment and rear park aid. Contact your nearest Volkswagen dealer for further information.

I remember with the first of the Mk5 GTI's came out in New Zealand and always wanted one. Then moved to the UK for a few years and have bought one.
I'm moving back that way in the next few month and will sell of my 05 GTI here and will buy another that side. What are the cars like these days?

I think the quoted article above is very old...

I agree - surely it's an old marketing splurt from somewhere?
Just been on VW NZ's site - they only show 8 used mk5's in the dealer network in the whole country - one of which is an R32 - must be a very rare beast...!
-
Plenty of mk5s in NZ. Get a lot of R32s imported from Japan too.

I think he was just clarifying the ed30 was sold in NZ and that it was in very low No's meaning it's quite rare over there.

I recall an ed30 owner (he actually had two) from NZ posting a while back in the golfgtiforum Mk5 Golf forum.
