Title: Direct Line to shed 2000 jobs, Liverpool office to close
Post by: berg on June 26, 2013, 02:18:54 pm
I left 8 years ago nearly, still got lot of good friends there though all 500 staff from Liverpool gone although some can re-locate to Manchester if able to travel.  :sad1:

I think one of our members on here works for the group, Conekiller?

Yup thats me!

Im in the Bromley office (HeadOffice) but my department isnt directly affected! Although I personally know 3 people who have had 'the meeting' this afternoon!

Its a grim day in this place!

Direct line does nothing to appeal to customer retention imo. Renewal quotes are always higher and the fact that Direct Line steal a huge portion of your NCD by only recognising 5 years when you leave means that many people seldom go back.

Glad to hear you arent effected though Conekiller.

It's the way things are heading as everything gets more computerised and the economy carries on sh*t!

Went on a lads do to Keswick in the lakes the other week.

I am 35 but most of the others were 49-50.

Of the 8 of us 5 of us had been made redundant at some point and the other 3 face potential redundancy and this was a cross section of careers including lawyers, chartered surveyors, insurance, banking, engineers etc

Better to be in a trade like builder, plumber, joiner etc and be good at it.

Yea Ipswich closed, todays announcement confirmed Liverpool are closing too!

RBS ran the company like a bank and it has suffered because of it! Was once a great place to work! Hopefully the changes will pull it back in line with competition!

Went through a redundancy very recently myself in april this year, with AXA Wealth. Although it is very daunting and worrying, i've looked on it as a blessing to move on, so far i have spent time with family, got loads of jobs done at home and begn to feel like my old self again, i should really get my finger out and look for a new job, career path, but its sunny out side and its warm  :signLOL:

All the best to those involved, things happen for a reason.  :happy2:

I'll be hanging my shoes up soon too.

Over 25 years working at the same place at various levels and then told that the place will be closing in less than 2 years!

This mill where I work has been there for 150 years, so it will be a sad day when it closes. At its peak there were thousands working there.

It seems as though it is happening everywhere you look lately.

Merseyside was due to get 500million injection from the EUSSR, which has been cut, or due to be cut, in half to less than 200 million  :rolleye: sad times  :sad1:
