Hi All,
Just after some advise and to see if anyone else has experienced this or heard of this.
Basically, i was accelerating off a slip road to join the M1, when i engaged 6th gear there was a very loud vibrating/grinding noise coming from the front passenger side. Dropped back into 5th and no noise. Very strange i thought. Tried 4th Gear - again the horrible noise.
So i slowed down and tried 6th again to try and figure out what the noise was and this time there was a loud thud and car felt like it hopped a couple of feet!
So i pulled over and got it recovered back home, while i decide whats best. As it happened late Saturday afternoon i'd of had little chance of getting hold of a garage and really didnt fancy getting it dropped of at a VW Dealers!
im no mechanic but i think its fair to say the gear box is fooked!!!
Just wondered if anyone else has ever heard of this or experienced it themselves? My car has done 76k & that has been majority motorway mileage. Im shocked really, not what id expect from a VW thats 4 years old and not been driven like a rally car.
Im going to give VW Uk a call - as i have nothing to lose. I suspect there must be a manufacturing defect so hopefully there might be a few more cases that they are aware of.
Failing that - i think a 2nd hand box might be the best option - any recommendations anyone?!
:sad1:

Before you call Vw uk, I'd get a garage, preferably a Vw garage to tell you it's the gearbox.
Then I feel you have grounds to shout.

I'm sure you can get a gearbox for a few hundred £'s. Its not worth the hassle in paying them £360 just to examin it IMHO.
Speak to some of the specialists on the forum, they may have a spare lying around going cheap (or know someone that does)
- AKS Tuning (Sponsored by TFSI Mike )
- Darkside Developments (best chance for a spare I think)
- Statller (Sheffield)
- JKM (Portsmouth)
to name a few. . . :happy2:
Or try ebay. . .

Darkside developments have a parts business next to them I think
