Title: Short shift
Post by: craig_t on July 01, 2013, 02:09:38 pm
Thinking if getting a short shift kit.

Are they worth getting?? Do they make much difference??

If so, what's the most popular kit?

Cheers

Get an eBay one, just as good as the Forge or Neuspeed and half the price. Also get the 42 Draft Design Bushes.  :happy2:

Must've been a dream.

If it's a dream, and you were in it, does that make it a nightmare?   :rolleye:

I have the feeling that the info in that thread is wrong. I'm nearly sure the ed30 does not have a short shift as standard. Can someone with a brain clarify this please?

Just checked my ED30 and it has 8J0711051 - in ETKA this is listed for an Audi TT and after a few supercessions, comes out at 8J0711046E.
Will try take the linkage off this week and see what the stud looks like.

The plot thickens.

The plot thickens.

A Google search of that part number brings up a TT forum of owners who paid for a short shift and got a standard linkage  :signLOL:

Might just buy one, if I already have a shortshift, then I'm sure they'll be someone wanting it.

Done mine last week on my Ed30,one that came off ended in 051 B  s3 that went on ends in E

part number that ends in 051 is for just the Lever while the complete assembly ends in 046, both part numbers are present on the lever, so very confusing.

To clarify 8JO 711 051 B was my original arm and the new one was 8J0 711 051 E, however I ordered 8J0 711 046 E  which is complete lever with the Black cable change spring attachment and clips already mounted on a pivot that is closer to the spline.

Definatly a shorter throw, I now don't poke the climate buttons if I get lazy with the fingers, and reverse is nearer to 1st laterally.

Less than £30 from VW and five mins to fit. Great Mod .

you will have to ask Alex, i wasnt there when he fitted them, they go on the gearbox i think though. TFSIMike has got them also  :happy2:

They're at the end of the linkages where they connect to the shifter plate thingys. OE are plastic/rubber and the 42dd ones are brass/aluminium (I think). Gives a nice direct mechanical feel.

Its not them ones as i already have them, the AKS ones are some extra ones

No Russ-The after market ones are a lot shorter knacking in gear changes but I find the tt/s3 one just right for me

Am I right in thinking that once a short shift has been fitted, it takes more force to get into gear as the pivot point has shortened??

Cheers Andy. I was hoping to get it done at the end of the month but struggling to find one on ebay. The one posted earlier isn't available for gti

Yep looks like this is the case after all, was in a rush fitting it yesterday and never put them side by side,  no wonder it feels the same
