So, I have been floating around here for long enough, I thought I would share what I've been up to........
I bought a Golf GT Sport from Arthur Princes in Loughborough in December 2012 to replace a Leon FR that I simply did not enjoy, "Just like a Golf" it is not.
Here it is the day I picked it up.......
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FTheGolf_zps7106df2e.jpg&hash=35aba9073f1e5b29a59b3d21350dbcf85b3af8b5)
The first thing I did was fit the RNS-510 that I had got originally for the Seat and I thought, that would be that.
Over Christmas I decided to try and update my Firmware/maps in the sat nav, which is when I found this site.
Then I went to R-Tech
Then I bought the LED kit off Matt
Then I bought the Boot Pop kit
Then I bought a mk6 Steering wheel and Cruise Control, Thanks Eddie-NL
Then Highline clocks, Thanks Eddie-NL
My point is, once on, it's a very, very slippery slope!
All the time this was happening I was reading more and more and started developing a plan of upgrades. So the saving and the collection of parts started and now, thanks to Harding Autocare I have them fitted.
Started with this lot......

And the overall effect.....

I've still got a few things to do, and few further ideas but for now I'm good.

Looking very mice mate--not sure if its my lap top but your links are not showing up
-
Yeah, sorry about that! my first time posting with photo's.
Once I realised my error, I went back in and changed the links.......please let me know if they still don't work.
Ta.
-
working now- love them front brakes :notworthy:This forum will spend your money on mods :signLOL:
-
Thanks.
They are lovely looking brakes. I actually drove up and collected all the bits from Dave and Jonny myself.....Lovely chaps and very helpful! But you won't buy anything from them if you don't persevere.
Still have a lot more miles to go before they're bedded in but will comment on their performance soon.
Ta.
-
Looking good!! :happy2:
-
Thanks Nick,
Is now a good time to suggest a change of Sig image do ya think?
-
Yesterday I ordered GTi side skirts and the front bib and splitter from the stealers so I guess that'll be next to go on.
Should be here on Friday. Not a bad price either!
Time to fnd that fitting guide and study it thoroughly! :driver:
Ta.

Like that 8)

Looking very nice mate :happy2: the brakes look mental!!! how are you finding the bilstein coilovers to the standard set up???
-
Thanks.
The Brakes are bedding in nicely but I may go for a rebleed next weekend just in case.
The Bilsteins are just shocks and springs. To be honest I'm a little disappointed with the amount they have not lowered the car as I thought it would be greater. I have to say though the ride and handling are much better.
I'm going to see Alex (AKS) next week to have my S3 swingarms fitted so I will ask his advice.
Ta.

BOOM........

-
Looks good! Is the rear lower than the front or is that just the angle?
-
Thanks.
It's the angle and when I took the picture it had the old wheels and Brakes in the back!
Ta.
-
Ahhhh fair enough!
-
Side skirts and front splitter....Fitted!!! :drinking:
-
:worthless:
-
Patience.....it's gone dark now, I'll give the car a quick wash and post some up.

BOOM........

That means a lot coming from someone who's car I've been admiring a lot over the last 7 months!

Looking nice Matt

Thanks Ed.
Although you're probably a little biased........half of it is your work :happy2: :congrats:

I have to say a massive Thanks to Alex at AKS! :happy2:, What a star he really is. Thoroughly nice bloke, hugely knowledgable and patient. :notworthy:

Lovely car & some choice mods you have made. Best colour too :happy2:
I'm interested to hear about the S3 lower arms upgrade as I have a set I am cleaning up for mine. I chose the same bushes too - how does the car drive now?
-
Hey man, good progress so far! Can't help thinking it would look so much better with just a teeny bit more of a drop! But it's not always for everyone. :driver:
Would like to hear about how you find the Polybushes and what kind of difference it made! Was thinking of replacing mine but more for durability than anything else!
-

[/quote]
Thanks.
The difference between the arms is quite small I think but it's a nice, fairly cheap mod and makes perfect sense if you are going to fit new bushes/ALK anyway.
The bushes though do make a difference! The first thing I noticed was that it pulled off sharper! At first I thought I had imagined it but it happened again and again. The steering feels quicker but after spending the afternoon driving I realised that its just the initial movement is more responsive but by far and away the biggest difference was the information coming back through the wheel directly into your hands......you can feel the road surface, in a good way! I find that I have a lot more "trust" in the car........it's definitely quicker over a journey!

Thanks.

I agree but after chatting with Alex today I'm going to see if they settle a bit more before I change anything!
I made a decision to go with the B12 kit when I went to collect my wheels from Nick (Keano). He spotted the baby seat in the back of my car and suggested that coilovers might be a bit to stiff for what I need and as I do 25k miles a year and wanted to remain comfortable, which the B12 kit is, better than standard even.
If I have to I could move to coilovers but only if I can find a comfy set! I can always put the B12's on my better half's Jetta which is currently as high as The Fall Guy's truck!
-
Thanks Rex.
That means a lot coming from someone who's car I've been admiring a lot over the last 7 months!
Thanks! :innocent:
The mods you've made are subtle (not too subtle though) and I think, really highlight the best parts of a Golf.
- I think the brakes are wonderful, not because I have similar ones but I really think these brakes are much better than the OEM ones. Al least for your levels of power, I think they will do just fine
- the wheels are very nice! What offset are these?
- the suspension is good enough to make the car sportier. There are a lot of great suspension kits out but very few people are disappointed by Bilstein. So, in my opinion, another great choice over here (although if you will have track days you may want an adjustable suspension).
- the GTI front valance and especially the side skirts really complete the car. Honestly, I think there is something missing on a stock Golf if it has no side skirts (for the cars that have black front and rear valance there is a big gap between the front and the rear and the side skirts fill up that gap)
- I like the fact that there are fewer GTSports than GTI (or GTI look). Most people like to replicate the GTI look but very few want a GTSport look :).
- doubt the S3 arm will make a noticeable improvement but the stiff bushing definitely make one!
My personal opinion is that a pair of R32 (or ED30) tail lights or OEM LED one look great on cars with your color. Are these in the wish list?
All the best! :driver:
-
Thanks Rex.
The brakes are really starting to bed in now and they are awesome......I have so much more confidence and feel in them. I had had second thoughts so many times while I was waiting to have them fitted but I'm so glad I did.
The wheels ET45 but are 8.5inches wide. Lovely wheels but to look the best I think I have to go lower or change the wheels for a narrower pair.
Sideskirts and front splitter were always on the list to do but I was offered an amazing price for all 3, brand new from the dealers so had to snap their hand off there and then. Really easy to fit (did it on friday night) and make the car look so much better.
I have been contemplating the rear lights! I like the LED ones but I like the dark cherry colour of the ED30 lights also........plus I quite like the mine anyway.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FBiano44%2FPhotobucket_Desktop_-_Matthews_MacBook_Air%2FP1000814_zpsed3bf902.jpg&hash=2b3913280169ca02f4dbbf1ea2c252429c202de7)
-
That's a lovely car, some great mods, a credit to you :happy2:
-
Thank You!
I took her for a "spirited drive" this morning........Wow, the new sideskirts make it so much faster!! :jumping: OR could that be the placebo effect?
-
Todays update........
Skoda wheel nut caps and 60mm VW badges all round! Looks much, much better. More O.E.M! :popcornsoda:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP1000910_zpsdd646093.jpg&hash=17a1d9fa7619d745fd81f6e2c99d51bbe0a27af0)
-
Hey Guys,
A few updates to add.........
First of all the obligatory black badge
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2F046e9c46-abb9-4d49-8427-b3aeb5e3d98e_zpsfa0a0937.jpg&hash=f559361b22dc0d9ff3b1019adcf4d5c01d408637)
Then I fitted mud flaps, controversial I know but they don't look that bad and driving over a wet white line and getting white paint all up the passenger side was the last straw for me so,
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP1000553_zps62fa6b45.jpg&hash=5a1c17d0ab9ff7588bec0f01f9d8ae9dfcd7b2da)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP1000551_zps8b74eb50.jpg&hash=70062af53e7234a98556805fcdef0e542a385d6d)
Then it all got a bit serious and I asked Eddie-NL to meet me at work one day and fit a BT kit and an RVC,
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP1000545_zps23ba7bf7.jpg&hash=9936f1386e67c4f19b2dcf28518ec3978a65e9d6)
The BT kit is probably my favourite upgrade so far......it's so useful.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2Fce2f0f3e-04ef-40d5-8d36-39d55695e8af_zps7ac9428f.jpg&hash=0ed2f517972a7167bde1c6a29315a3fa67c3a9f1)

I have to say a massive Thank You to Ed, :happy2: Top Notch work as always and a pleasure to chat to. :notworthy: Couldn't recommend him enough!
And then last but not least, last week I had my Go Faster spoiler painted and fitted which I think complete's the look of the car so I will probably start looking at the audio or xenon's or both...............Bloody Forum!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP1000554_zpseb21c40e.jpg&hash=554e17cd845353f437c49c0791b76f8932db9c4e)

Thats it for now.......Thanks for looking. :drinking:
Ta.

excellent mods :happy2:
-
Great mods. Car is looking lovely. Xenons would finish it off nicely :happy2:
-
Really like what you are doing 8)

Thanks Guys.
I'm really liking the car at the moment :driver:. I've never modified a car before but have to say, I'm really enjoying the experience so far (except the costs :stupid:).
I've always wanted Xenons, ever since I first saw them!.......I want to do it properly though and it's a huge cost. I drive 25000 miles year and can't help thinking that the audio would be a better upgrade first.
Ta

Coming along nicely mate :happy2:

Thanks Matto.
I always seem to be one step behind you though. :fighting2:

Thanks Matto.
I always seem to be one step behind you though. :fighting2:
Don't know about that. You've got a few mods on your list that I'm still yet to do.

I've seen the light.......the power of Xenon is strong!

Fantastic pic

Thanks.
Sadly though, it has alot more to do with the camera than the photographer! :ashamed:
-
Where did you get the black badge from please, scoured Ebay but can't find any GT ones....
-
Ebay.
I soon realised that the GT Sport badge is different to the GTi badge.
However it's the same as the Passat B6 or CC.

Brilliant, cheers for that

Oh,oh,oohhhh.......
Eddie-NL has been today to start the next project........but I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel! YET!
Massive thanks for all Ed's help so far. :happy2:
-
do tell
-
Finally found no2 on the wish list.
Ed had to remove them from another car though and then rebuild it with normal headlights!
I honestly believe there is no end to that man's talents! :notworthy:

Oh my goodness me, what a day.......Eddie has been working his magic until 1.30 in the morning but it was so worth it. :congrats:
-
Okay, fancy telling what was going on until 1:30 in the morning?
-
I will, as soon as I get some time........only took a couple pictures but you'll get the idea I'm sure. In the mean time, it was 2 full factory retro fits and one cool little mod!

UPDATE TIME part 1.......
So, Eddie-NL turned up last Thursday to commence a full Xenon retrofit, Lights, Washers and levelling system plus a few other bits.
He started by stripping out the cockpit:-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP5120145_zps8fe9534b.jpg&hash=94a6410bcf16eec7a1c1e2d012d1583cea9a9205)
Stripped off the front:-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP5120143_zps81feb005.jpg&hash=33c745dab6945ffb86fb578431f358bcfb22deee)
Fitted the front level sensor:-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP5120151_zps5271fae6.jpg&hash=a87caeb1634500cd935f5a793052987f370e2054)
Fitted the rear level sensor:-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP5120154_zps27bc5f1b.jpg&hash=095f6d3b7b0ec8e26f120b1f87db09df5e126484)
Fitted the new washer bottle with headlight wash pump and fluid level sensor:-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP5120146_zpsbb171488.jpg&hash=d23b3e5e4feb8e0f10e72938da41e6a17a1c4e4e)
Test fitted the lights:-
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP5120147_zps20102fee.jpg&hash=5d07350d6a3af063cb91b2664a4bb3031ea4c9bc)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fa585%2FBiano44%2FP5120148_zps13fa036d.jpg&hash=155c5ca3c8b37e81a1c5fcf3a73ffa1814bb1992)
Ed used 3 Kufatec wiring looms to connect it all together and his own work to get the Xenon shutters to activate when on main beam.
I also fitted LED's for the sidelights while the lights were out which at first seemed not to be working. We stripped the lights out and turned the LED's around in their holders and "Hey Presto" they worked.
The lights have been a long time coming but boy were they worth it......Even Ed was impressed! The light output is immense, Main beam is just awesome and the LED sidelights really finish it off.
I would like to run the sidelights as DRL's but as far as i can work out it's no possible
Ed did do a few other bits and I still have more to do. I will take some more photo's of the finished product later on to try and show the effect.
Ed worked for 13 hours and didn't finish until 1.30am. The man is an absolute star :notworthy: ......If anyone needs anything retrofitting, you can't go far wrong by giving Eddie a call!
That's it for now.......There's a GP on, oh wait, Vettel is winning again :rolleye: .....BORING!
-
Profesional work :happy2:
-
Wow that's top work ...not often it gets done as factory intended
sent using my own fingers
-
Well, I was offered everything I needed for a very low price so I thought "Go for it" but when Ed came to take everything off the donar car he discovered that the level sensors were shot. Been the perfectionist that he is, he persuaded me to buy some new ones rather than do "half a job". So all in all with the new looms it turned out to be quite a lot more £'s than I first thought it would be.
However, the performance of the Xenons is staggering compared to the normal lights so probably worth it!
I'll just have to do a lot more O.T to pay for it. :signLOL:
-
I can admire them better now.
They were amazing in the dark, wish I had some on the journey home
-
I'm just glad you got home! :pomppomp:
I love'em though, so it was all worth it. :driver:

very nice indeed..thing this might be my next mod

UPDATE TIME part 2........
As mentioned earlier Ed did a few other bits when he was here........
Tyre Pressure Management System. I couldn't resist this as it was £9 off the Bay:-

MK6 Wiper stalk.....After having the MK6 steering wheel fitted back in March, the trip computer buttons on the end of the stalk were really annoying me so I picked up a second hand wiper stalk off the BAY and Ed popped it on for me:-

Rear footwell LED's. Rear footwell lights and the Looms for them were supplied by Ed:-

LED sidelights.....I love the look of these:-

Dipped Xenon's:-

Dipped and Main Beam also with MTec bulbs:-

And that is all for now.
I still have a few other bits to do but still need to collect a few more things so that I can do it all at once.
Ta for lookin' (http://s1285.photobucket.com/user/Biano44/media/P5120258_zps8f881f66.jpg.html)

I was unsure if I needed a sub or not as I'm not a Bass junkie. I'm hoping that upgrading the speakers and amping them will be enough!........Time will tell I guess!
How are you getting on with your S3 intercooler Andy?
-
The S3 cooler is on and my car is at the tuners at the moment.. hopefully get it back at the end of the week

Well, it's been a week using the LED sidelights and no problems to report so far!
FYI I got them from Bold Sport for a tenner!

:driver:
I'm as happy as a Pig in Sh++ now that I can listen to Chris de Burgh at silly loud volumes.
Thanks to Ed who has come through yet again. After months of badgering he finally gave in and help fit my Sound system.
It's LOUD and sounds great and almost overshadows the fact that he also fitted new door mirrors with lights in and LED lights in the bottom of each door.
Knackered now though.
-
nice nice...what speakers did you put in
-
Hertz 3 ways in the front and 2 ways in the rear + 10" sub in a custom enclosure in the boot!
Rear doors were straight forward. The front doors were barstewardss, could not fit the crossover in anywhere so we ended putting them in the centre console, under the ashtray. Ed being the Legend he is then wired all three speakers through the loom between the door and chassis with pins so that it all looks OEM.
-
what sub did you go for and did you get the enclosure of e bay
-
I got a 10" JBL sub of eBay for £5.50 :drinking:
I found the boot enclosure on eBay but contacted them directly (slightly cheaper) because I wanted my enclosure to be slightly deeper so that I can fit a better sub in the future.....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151141275071?redirect=mobile
I went for this one as it's made from fibreglass so it's lighter and less bulky.
-
been looking at them sub enclosures as well funny enough are they a good fit--thanks for answering all my daft questions :happy2:

They're a pretty good fit, better than i could achieve anyways. Ive done about 150 miles so far today and have no issues to report but it does use only one fixing and i think I'm going to add another closer to the top just to make sure that i don't have any issues going forward.
-
I re-calibrated my Audison Bit Ten at lunch time to work with a lower clipped volume level off my RNS-510, re adjusted the gains on the amp by turning the front up and the rears nearly all the way down and it has lifted the sound stage right up too in front of my face......Much BETTER!
Think I'm gonna leave it like this until the weekend, then I'm going to plug my laptop into the Bit Ten and have some real fun.

So, after 18 months of happy motoring my Golf has gone back to standard (almost) and has been sold on.
Great car
Great Experiance

What's next?, well I actually ordered a brand new Octavia vRS estate as my family is expanding again in August. I got a great deal, with lots of toys but after nearly 6 weeks the dealer still couldn't commit to a delivery date and then out of the blue, my trusty VW supplier called me and said "cancel the Skoda, I've got your car!"........2 hours later (19:30) he picked me up and took me to the showroom and I would say 150 yards of a test drive the deal was done.
So on the 29th March I collected this..........

I told everyone "I'm not going to mod this one"......Yeah OK, that didn't last long. Eddie-NL has already spent several hours on it!!!
Build Thread coming soon, aye Alex!

If they made an estate, surely it would be called a "Shooting Brake"!!

Really sad to see the car back to stock and being sold :sad1:.
But, the new car is cracking! What engine does it have? 2.0 TSI?

HAHA......I wish. Unfortunately due to the mileage I do, diesel is needed but I did get the 170bhp with DSG. It's very, very comfy!!

very nice car Matt--you just knew it was going to get modded :signLOL:

Thanks.
Massaging seats anyone......mmmmmm stop it!
