Title: New Member / edition 30
Post by: Jamie30 on July 02, 2013, 11:47:29 pm
Hi all im completely new to all of these forums! I picked up my GTI Edition 30 last month and have loved every second ive had with her. ive come from driving a 1.4 Polo Dune TDI so there is a massive difference :jumping:

Im spending many hours in the garage detailing her and any help on how to remove swirls would be much appreciated!

ill post some pictures when i learn how to!

cheers!

Well I do like to keep thing oem ! But I have a few plans for it.

Full miltek non res exhaust
Audi s3 brakes
Refurb of the alloys ( although I'm finding it difficult to find somewhere that will match the colour of the pescaras .)
Would  like to install the rns510 too,

All future plans tho !  :jumping:

Hi mate... cracking car! Cannot beat tornado red :)

I had my 8J CH/ pescara's done in 'shadow chrome'... was the best finish I could find trying to keep them looking standard, just an idea ;)
Milltek FTW!!

Tornado red ! Completely agree ! Love the colour and comes up gorgeous after some work.

I like the colour of your pescaras! It's a definite plan to get mine refurbed in the coming months .

And that milltek looks awesome ! Nice !

Are any of you guys on here familiar with machine polishing . I'm very interested in doing so to get rid of all the swirls and imperfections . I have  been a strictly hand polisher but some of these machine polishing results  are awesome ,I just can't seem to get that with hands!  :sad1:

Cheers guys !

Welcome on board.  :drinking:

That's a shiny red car you've got there fella!  :notworthy:

There's a whole section on here dedicated to the anal art of detailing and once you start polishing and waxing your new toy you won't be able to stop. Get yourself a decent DA polisher and a piece or scrap metal (or use someone else's car) and have a practice.

Detailing section.....

Thanks for the warm welcome !

Hmm maybe a time to practise on the girlfriends car!

Any recommendation on which polisher to get ? And which combinations of pads and polishes?

Thanks again !

Have a look at the Meguiars G220 v2 Dual Action Polisher or any similar type DA polisher (there's a lot about). As for the polish, look at Zaino (for all your products) really does make the Tornado Red "appear" to look VERY red with a deeper finish, as recommended by SaintSteve.

From Cleanyourcar.......

Have a butchers at this article from Detailing World, will give you all the info your after, its worth a read......

The dodo juice 'buff daddy' da polisher is also a winner ;)
Get an old cheap panel from the scrapyard to practice on... everyone has their preferred brand of polish/ wax. Personally I like to use the Poorboys range.

Thanks for everyone's help.

The ed30 is a lovely machine . Which golf did you opt for?

Checked out the detailing section and there are some really helpful tips!
