Hi guys. I've got a strange grinding or rubbing sound on my car. It's coming from the drivers front wheel arch when I'm turning left. It's getting worse and worse. It used to only happen on full lock but but I've noticed it's happening more now. I've got gen 19 inch bbw alloys at 8 inch wide. The offset is 50 and I'm using eibach sportline springs. I've had a good look around the arch and can't see any obvious rubbing evidence, or any clearance issues. I've had a look on the wishbone, strut, arb and track rod and can't see anything. I've not had chance to take the wheel off yet but I wondered if any one else had cone across this before?
By the way, I had taken the screws out of the arch tops. It's not that. It doesn't have that kind of rubbing sound, it's more of a worrying metallic sound, grinding almost :(
Great stuff
your wisdow and offtopic Charm will be greatly appreciated

Steering Rack??

Check your wheel bolts.!
I had a similar issue on the passenger side and two bolts were loose. :ashamed:
Tyre fitter hadn't tightened them up right from 3 days before

It is a shot wheel bearing kind of sound. But it's strange it only does it on lock
-
I'll check that john thanks
-
check for a trapped stone behind disc and dust sheild, maybes
bill

wheel bearings make a deep groaning type of sound. jack your car up and have a shake of your wheeltop to bottom there should be no play

Wheel bearing sounds and feels ok. I think it might be the cv joint? I'm not as clues up as some on here so might be wrong. I've had the wheel off, the bolts were fine. No stones in the splash guards. There's no wear or rubbing marks anywhere. Nothing. Looks like a Vw jobbie. Now, if it was the cv joint, would Vw warranty have an issue with there being 19" bbs' on there?

take them off, I'll "mind" them for you :happy2:
-
Haha I'd take you up on that if you've got some gen vag 18 inch wheels
-
As bizare as it sounds, check for a small stone trapped between the back face of the disc and the inner face of the disc sh*t sheild - i had exactally the same problem a while ago.

Already checked for stones mate :( booked the car in to the stealer tomorrow morning I'll see what they say about waranty then. They noRmally struggle pulling a fast one on me anyway!

They might have an issue on the wheels or lowering probably more - angle of things etc etc - depends on your dealer.
I've had an issue before when the dealer wouldnt do anything due to an aftermarket part, took it back standard and they work on it no problem - just like to cause you grief.
