Just watched episode 2 from Sunday night, got to the end and thought - what a waste of an hour. They spent 10 mins talking about cars and the rest was sh*te. Why on every episode do they think we want to watch them have some pointless and over the top race.
Like the race with the Taxi's, it was so fake and set-up. If they are gonna race at least race....not cars going through walls and cars through Limo's.
As for the Free runners again Trial bike....WTF...its a car show, it had Zero relevance. I think they have just run out of ideas and are just making up silly sh*t to do.
Dont get me wrong, I have loved the the entertaining things they have done over the 11 series, but does anyone else think its getting a bit stupid now....at least spend 20-30 on cars stuff and maybe even review a car we might buy.
Seems Fifth Gear and some internet shows like Drive and Motor trend do a much better job....
Anyone else feel the same?

They've had 20 seasons now (well this is the 20th of the "new style" top gear).
Yes things can get repeated but even a sh*te top gear is better than no top gear. I know they will have some crackers for us this season. I don't mind the non-car related bits, the free running and bike thing I thought was really good actually.

Correct! :)

It was pointless and boring tbh.

The free running bit was so fake, they jumped through "glass"....why on earth would you do that? There was also a full camera track on every hall way, i bet it took them 5-7 hours to film a 10 min race..
So wonna see more about cars. I wish Mighty Car mods and other internet series got a huge budget like TopGear

Don't like it? Don't watch it. :)

Bit of a sh1t answer....I love the show and have for may years, nothing wrong with saying the quality is slipping or getting samey....
I agree, some Top Gear is better then no Top Gear....but that statement alone make me feel sad. I really used to look forward to Sunday nights....
-
Just record the show and fast forward the bits your unhappy with. Happy days.
-
Yeahh I miss the insane, crazy, outside the box Top Gear of earlier series which seems to be lacking in the current season. Granted its better than nothing but I think its lost its edge :sad1:
-
It does feel its lost its edge a tad bit more and more of the show looks ridiculously staged. .That race with the free running was beyond pointless still some good bit but no where as good as what I've seen in the past
-
OK, here's your answer!
The 3 old giffers that present Topgear have lost there spark because they think its all about them.
Do yourself a favour and record the program, check the forum and if its worth watching, someone on here is bound to say so!
Next, follow Chris Harris/Pistonheads on Twitter and every time Chris post's a video on YouTube.......watch it!
Car fix done!
In the mean time watch all his old ones!
-
I think the "don't like it ? then don't watch it" comments are sometimes taken in the wrong context, yes if it's not your type of thing then fine but a large part of peoples gripe is that what was a very good car related entertainment show is getting worse and they're disappointed as there's nothing else of it's type around. It would be good if they could just come up with some different concepts though, clearly some of the people behind the show are very clever so shouldn't be to hard, I sometimes get the impression the show revolves around the 3 of them just dicking about and no doubt getting paid a vast amount of license payers money for the pleasure.
I still like it and still watch it or record it, I feel it's got very predictable, far fetched and I have noticed that when watching live I tend to drift off or if it's recorded fast forward quite a bit because you know it's going to be poor.
Not sure what the viewing figures are but they must be good or the beeb would bin it so from their point of view "if it's not broken, don't fix it"

This is what I do, best bet was Ferrari F12, too much power tho?, Jez your getting old matey!
-
They seem to have disappeared up their own arses, think they are the new monty python, I keep watching it, god knows why
-
Simple answer is the BBC no longer have the funding budget to make show stopping episodes week in, week out.
1st and last episodes 1/6 will be worth watching I expect :signLOL:
-
That taxi rolling, that taxi through the portacabin, that fake jumping through suger glass. Just made it look like some poor episode of the bill or something.
Reasonable priced car isnt even a cheap car anymore.
Overpaid and lost connection with reality.
Its entertainment but can be poor excuse for entertainment at times. Its basically the licence fee paying for 3 OLD millionaires to live their dreams.

Thank you, this just goes over everything in my opening post.....Such a shame. But Yes, ill still watch the next 4 episode....and probably just end up fast forwarding half of it. :sad1:
-
Its just 'more of the same'... still watch it but its all very predictable. Even the Ferrari review was a farce, the viewer never really finds much out.
-
Simples, watch 'All star Mr and Mrs' or 'Countryfile' instead then

IMO if its a petrol head show your after then it has to be Fifth Gear! They test the cars properly ! :driver:

I agree with the O.P :congrats:
I'd rather watch "In the Night Garden"
Seriously though, I make no effort at all to watch the new episodes. Few years ago I never missed it! I still think the "Specials" are entertaining, but I find I'm getting to despise Clarkson more n more :ashamed:
Chris Harris FTW :happy2:
-
What's wrong with In the night garden!
-
I've always watched it, always will watch it and don't think I've ever said a bad word about it on here before, but..........
Yeh overall it was a very poor episode! The taxi race was pretty much the same as the people carrier race they did with the touring car drivers a few years back. And don't start me on the Television centre farce! Now that was a waste of tax payers money, and not even what I'd call entertaining. I'm just really disappointed that a programme I have grown up with can get that tiresome and predictable!
Here's hoping the next episodes will be better, because I'll still be watching them regardless!
-
so theres not just me who thinks its lost its way, used to be the highlight of sunday night but the last episode was proper sh*te...
free running and motorbikes, thought it was a car show??????

Don't be daft, this show has a massive budget! It gets sold all around the world and probably has a billion viewers. Which is exactly why the 3 Stooges have, as someone pointed out, disappeared up their own arses into a massive fart cloud of self congratulatory smugness.

Disapearing up their own arses =your opinion
How do explain the ever shortening series lengths .. and the fact that new series are more wide spread?
-
JC is a old fat loser now, i found him great for years, but can you really take his advice on cars anymore? Tiff Needel and Jason Plato do such a better job and you trust what they say because they can actually drive a car properly and dont prick about crashing on purpose....

Yes, I'm sure that an Olympic champion sailor, an Americas Cup winning crew, plus their million dollar boat and a trip to the other side of the world all come very cheaply? I also think that this is the second series to be aired this year, is it not?
-
To be fair it doesn't cost much to review cars, magazines do it so there is no reason why the allegedly worlds no 1 motoring programme can't. Again though they don't even review cars anymore they just roam arround making the same episodes over and over again but wearing differant clothes.
Can't say I can comment on this series because I don't watch it anymore.

I imagine the boat crew were already there testing/training/practicing.
Just a film crew to ship over there and a hire car with damage excess waiver!

Clarkson doing a review on the Ninky Nonk, that would make great TV.

That sums up my opinion pretty well. I have to agree that this series has had worst start ever...hope it gets better.
Although all these comments about a 'waste of tax payers money' is not exactly accurate! As SimonP mentioned above, TG gets sold all around the world and so the BBC actually make money from it.

Regardless of how much money it makes, that piece of film was a waste of money......... As soon as those guys smashed through the 'glass' I lost total interest.

I agree with what's been said, sometimes you get a pointless episode, the Africa specials are a good example, but then I go to work and non-car nuts are raving about it.
I think for a true car nut it's just not the program it was, and even Clarkson and Willman (the executive producer) even asked Top Gear readers about the monster they had created and whether things could get any worse because of the criticisms from car nuts, licence fee payers and as such, and were considering taking it back to becoming a car show or keep it as it was.
....then you get a real peach of an episode or even just a film, you have to admit the Mono review was shot beautifully and gave even the layman with no experience about cars a real feel what it was about, it's almost like a car advert, but it's this kind of thread, paper article or review that keeps Top Gear consistent in the ratings and popular amongst the general viewing public (who are a fickle bunch)
It's always good to read a balanced Top Gear thread.
-
I cant watch it anymore it pointless in my lowly opinion I cant stand the little short one he pi$$es me off more than anyone on tv. Having watched it from the start and both my elder boys have been to the studio with both work and in there own time they love it and have pictures off there works van racing round the track ,I feel I must have out grown the show so maybe its a age thing, I read some where Clarkson owns some of the image rights or some of the production company so he is bound to want it to just keep going forever.

Moan moan moan moan moan.

I like some parts of it , some of the filming and quality thereof is great , up there with the quality of stills in EVO , its all the pointless sh*te I hate , the races , the floating cars etc etc , and that race in TV Centre wt actual f? Bring back William Woollard , Noel Edmonds etc and people writing in about how sh*te their Renault 5s are , now that WAS a car show back then!! :happy2:
-
Enjoyed this evenings episode.
Wouldn't mind a thrash around Circuito de Sir Francis Drake haha.
-
TG wasn't too bad yesterday , giggled quite a bit but the bits about the cars was very similar to previous episodes and generally a bit dull . Star in the Reasonably priced car has also started to be boring for me too , i always fast forward that bit , if its been recorded.
-
last nights was funny, definitely the best of this season.
-
This serious has been seriously boring but I did enjoy last nights episode.
If I'd spent 200k on a car and it started to disintegrate like that Ferrari, I'd be a tad upset...
-
They mentioned something regarding the MK7 GTI... I beleive it drove quicker round a track in Economy mode rather than Sports! This cannt be true! :scared:

^ 0.1 of second quicker in Comfort mode; sick bags at the ready though :signLOL:

No it wasnt it was fkn stupid , just like that rubbish OAP car etc etc , they can be great , Astra VXR test recently was fantastic , as was this weeks supercar test , why cant they just fill an hour with that stuff? Oh and I fkn hate parties so that remark doesnt apply to me!
-
No need to start swearing is there.
Take a chill pill. Eat some skips or something.
If you don't like it - don't watch it. Otherwise, don't watch it and complain, and don't not watch it and complain. (that makes sense).
There are other motoring related TV shows, both broadcast and on the Internet, which you can watch if you don't like it.
Many millions of people world wide do enjoy the odd challenges that Top Gear do.
If you are in the minority that don't then simply don't watch it.

HAHA, last nights made me chuckle, some seriously pissed off peeps with 600hp in their face, lolf

It's supposed to be Top Gear not Benny Hill. Shame because they used to be able to pull it off without it being totally obvious, the American road trip one was brilliant, dead funny and left you really wondering if it was real or not.
As said previously I think people are just getting a bit sick of what used to be a great car based entertainment show slowly turning into nothing short of a farce.
-
its just getting far to predictable now and the jokes are so scripted its not even funny
-
Sundays TG was quality , I absolutely loved the 911 segment , the filming quality of that piece was stunning in HD
-
I caught up on TG last night and watched the last 2/3 episodes and they were hilarious. Belly laughter at the hovervan.
-
The off-road caravanning was funny this week, if a little predictable and the Singer... well, I could've happily watched a whole hour of that!
-
Tut tut May... You should know that saying that something "accelerates at 1 meter per second", doesnt make sense.
:innocent:
-
Nearly all of that segment was filmed in Wiltshire, too, not bloody Somerset!
