As title says after a few long drives over a couple of weeks I have to top up my coolant not great amounts just like half a tea cup, temp gauge inside always goes up to and stays half way. Any ideas

Coolant System Pressure Test is the cheapest and most sensible way if you can't see any visible leaks.
-
Have you ever spotted any water on the drive/road where the car has been sat? Most likely just a small leak. Get the coolant pressure tested.
-
Nah never seen any water around the car I was thinking the same a very slight leak that maybe only happens when car is up to temperature,
-
What model of car - petrol or diesel?
-
Sorry 55 plate gti

It finds its own level, if you are putting in more than the system needs it will keep chucking it out when it gets hot, probably the warm weather. Leave it at the level it finds for its self for a while, if you find it keeps on going down further then you might have a problem.

I never go over the max line once it did say in the car stop car and check coolant level

I would just keep an eye on it at the moment and monitor the loss - eg nothing in the expansion tank action required!

I will try that one and see what happens
