Title: How much should ac condenser replacement cost?

Hi all

Just trying to ensure I am not being over charged - a funny thing to ask when using a main dealer  :grin:

I had my service there including aircon and they haven't charged for subsequent checks as to why to cold air went warm after a couple of weeks, so had very good service - free courtesy car etc (VW Chelmsford for those that know the dealer)

Anyway after more searching today and them taking the front of the car apart they have found that the bung on the condenser is busted so need a whole new condenser.

After much haggling I managed to get them down to £450 all in including the part (apparently £243 + vat) - they started at over £650 so thought doing well. I would have been charged £65 for all the investigation work today anyway so in seeing it as £385  :grin:

Wondered how much others have paid as they are fitting tomorrow

I've never known one go other than if involved in a crash!

There's more than one type fitted some with a built in dryer some not - if I was getting that work done I would want a new dryer fitted if its the stand alone type!

In terms of price it seems to be booked as friends and Family so that's a result!

Thanks mate, not sure what is being fitted but being a main VW I would hope its got what it needs  :laugh:

It's a must ask cause its very little on the bill at that stage but more or less the same bill as your getting if you need it latter!

The dealer only makes money if your inefficient  - worth prompting them as the job needs to be carried out whilst that far into the system plus they'll have to pay for not bring it to your attention!
