.... If you have not been then you must go. It will blow your mind. It's easily the most interesting city I have been to.
I am a devote atheist... But you cannot help but be moved by the magnificent churches and the Sistine chapel.
Photo thread to follow.
*worst "I'm on holiday thread ever* :booty:

Yeah Rome is awesome! Nothing like seeing it for yourself. :happy2:
-
Its a brilliant city, I was there in November 2011 and it was surprisingly hot, I wanna go back there again in a couple of years and do the bits I missed.
Look forward to seeing your pics :happy2:

One of the most incredible places we've ever been. I'm a devout atheist, my wife's a devout believer and we both love it. The history, the architecture etc etc.
Off again in September for a weekend break. Can't wait.
:happy2:

All the usual bits aside. We were wandering around and stumbled across the Porticus Octaviae.... 1800 years old. :stupid:
Got some belting shots of saint peters basilica and the pantheon.... If those buildings don't 'move' you in some way then you must have no pulse. Can't wait to show you my photos.

Have been to Rome and The Vatican myself and was gobsmacked by how much there is to see and do. Puts all other European cities in the shade.
-
Agree 100% Andy.... It puts Paris to shame in my opinion.
-
My Auntie Lives there, Married about 50 years ago to an Italian and i had some amazing trips there up until i was about 16 yrs old as we used to go every year and across to Pescara, loved it then but the last trip was 25 years ago.
Would love to go back as have such fond memories.....

I agree with everyone's sentiments on Rome, great place to visit with so much to see!
Vatican and Patheon already mentioned you have Colosseum/Trevi Fountain/Spanish Steps and much more.

Get yourself over to Piazza Navona, still takes my breath away today.

Funnily we walked in and out of Navona.... It was really busy and a bit hustly bustly
-
I was there on the 6th July - 9th July at my sisters.
On the 9th we drove to Civitavecchia and got the ferry to Sardinia (where I am right now) :jumpmove:
Back to Roma on Sunday. :happy2:
-
Not many people in the UK know that it's only an hours drive west to Ostia to the beach or an hour north to the mountains Skiing in Campo Felice :star:
-
There's a McDonald's near the Spanish steps. Useful when you're sick of all the lovely food available. :happy2:

We are currently on our honeymoon and on the train between Venice and Florence as I type (3 nights in each). Rome is our next stop after Florence before finishing off in Sorrento for 5 nights.
Really enjoying Italy so far and definitely looking forward to Rome.. Can't wait to see your pics Rich.
Out of interest, was there anywhere to buy a half decent SLR camera out there mate? I have got a serious new itch for Photography and wish I had bought one before we came. :sad1: If it is a lot more expensive than back home then I will just wait, but it would be good to be able to take some nice pics whilst away.
Any suggestions on a good beginners option (Canon/Nikon etc)?

When are you in Rome Ben?
I'm flying back to the UK on the 25th July?
If I'd have know we could have sorted meeting up.
Me n my sis could have driven you up to Castel Gandolfo for an amazing meal!!!

Ron.... we are in Sorrento now. Horrible place. :innocent:

I'm not really a traveler, always feel there's enough to see in this country without jetting around the world but we went to Rome as part of our Honeymoon back in 2007 and I was blown away, spent a week there but felt I could easily have spent a month, cant wait to go back again sometime.
People are still bored of me banging on about the Pantheon... :signLOL:....also did Tuscany a couple of years ago and absolutely love Italy really.
-
Ive just visited Venice (Stayed in Lido Di Jesolo) was quite a nice place but overrun and ruined by Chinese people and Chinese shops selling cheap merchandise
-

The history of England/Scotland is so incredibly rich. You could spend all of your holidays for the rest of your life in Britain and always find fascination.
-
Looking forward to seeing your photographs, :happy2: it's somewhere I've always wanted to go but just never got there as yet
-
I too loved Rome, went last year for the Mrs 40th and was blown away by the buildings,Also been to Venice and Sorrento,Venice stupidly busy and very expensive at the waterfront.. (8 Euros for a bottle of coke at a place there ).
Spent a good few hours people watching in the bar that sits right on the main street in Sorrento.
Been to lots of places in Italy....Lake Garda is also a must see IMHO.
-
Yes I've heard the lake Garda is nice, we were contemplating getting married there.... Plans changed
-
All the usual bits aside. We were wandering around and stumbled across the Porticus Octaviae....
Now known as the Skodacus Octaviae...
