Title: advice on handling upgrades...
Post by: ginge 0116 on July 17, 2013, 05:48:39 pm
Right then, my car is going in for a new chain and tensioner 2moz!!! So was looking for some advice on what handling mods I should be considering for the gti. I want to sort a list out so I know how many pennies im gonna need. One thing I have seen is the walk kit, can u feel the difference when fitted ? Cheers sam.

You can indeed feel a difference from the WALK. Other upgrades depend on your budget and brief eg road use or track.

On my ed30 I started with the basics eg. WALK, superpro bushes (the front bushes improve steering response), anti rollbars front and rear.

I personally haven't felt the need to upgrade dampers yet as my car handles well but I may have been lucky with mine (bilsteins will replace mine in due course).

It's a slippery slope once you start :-)

Bilstein B12 kit
Superpro Anti Lift kit
TT Wishbones
Uprated rront and more importantly rear anti roll bar
Superpro polybushes
UNIbrace XB & UB

That lot should set you back a couple of grand and the car will handle far, far better.

if on a budget i would go b12, rear arb and xb first in that order

In the last 2 weeks or so I have had B12 kit, the S3 swingarms, S.A.L.K and front bushes and a full 4 wheel alignment!
It's slightly firmer but much more comfortable, much better grip and better handling.
I will probably invest in better roll bars in the future but for now I'm just enjoying the improvements made so far.

I do honestly feel that they all compliment each other, not one of the mods is stand out better than the rest, they work as a unit.

I felt my old gti handled extremely well and handled its power very well with the following mods

Kw Coilovers
WALK
Eibach ARBs
Lower engine Mount

And that's exactly what ill be doing again to my edition 30 although ill be going bilstein this time round and adding bushes aswell.

My current KO3 GTI has,

WALK
Eibach pro kit
Superpro polybushed rear arms
Polybushed engine mount

And a few other bits and handles well for a fast road car, retains good comfort too

My old edition 30 had,

WALK
Bilstein B12
VWR front and rear ARBs
VWR engine mount

And a few other polybushed items, handled very well, slighty too harsh for daily use on edin roads and a bit snappy at times but a good compromise

My car has:

- Vibratechnics large and small lower engine mount (dogbone)
- Super-Pro anti lift kit

These mods shocked me with the difference it made, For my road car anyway. Still quiet and comfortable but solved my wheel hop problems, made the car nicer to drive and the turn in is transformed. How the car should have been out of the factory! I wouldnt personally go any further as the car still looks completely standard but drives so much better.
