It's been a long time reaching this point, I've flipped several times on this one but after giving my quad tips some elbow grease at the weekend I've decided I want to keep them! However I just have to lose the abt lower valance.
I need a quad outlet therefore I need an r32 rear valance, the reflectors and a black insert.
Now reason for post.
1. Where to buy, eBay few and far between. I've seen them in this site
http://vagen.vg//catalog/product_info.php?products_id=2762 (http://vagen.vg//catalog/product_info.php?products_id=2762)
But reckon that won't have the correct insert for the quad tails... Is there anywhere cheaper?
2. Re the insert. Someone was selling a carbon fibre one on here a while back but can't find the post. I'm not a c/f junkie so simples black would be ok. Can anyone remember who was selling it? Else what are my options?
(pretty sure it was on here as I can't use the other forums classifieds section as it's not mk5 segregated)
3. Expecting to pay circa £100-150 for paint, am I about right?
-
Have you thought about getting OEM pricing, even if it's just for comparison?
-
Thanks Stu I plan to do that today, though don't reckon I will get the insert to suit the quads. I know the c/f is really expensive. I don't want to pay that much so I'm hoping there are alternatives.
-
I think it was rich who was selling his but im not sure if it went with the car in the end??
Drop him a PM see if he stil has it :happy2:
-
Hi !
Yes i still have OSir rear valance for the R32 Bumper ( quad outlet )
Its Matte Carbon Fibre
Give us a shout if you want it :happy2:
-
Need to talk to Vw tomorrow....
To help me cut down on the frustration of the call, does anyone have to hand the partnumber of the r32 rear valance (that bit below the number plate)...am I right it's called a rear spoiler (unusually).
I just have acces via iPhone and can't seem to find it using the search facility.

1K6 807 433 C GRU - £138.20 + vat

-
Thanks RR much appreciated...richie, we're gettin there :-)
£148.84 rear lower bumber (spoiler)
£120.00 paint and fit
£6 reflectors
Now.... the big part...gulp..the insert.
Does anyone know of a non C/F piece I can get to fit this? Not sure i can stretch to the real deal.
-
:ashamed: i,m confuseded as usual
upper bumper
lower bumper(valence/apron?)
reflectors
paint/fitted
and then the milly....of course....
is that all i need to price.
i got quoted recently 300squid to do skirts and bumper and then i thought why bother if i know next year i want an r32 rear anyway?
:scared:cos i,m trying to put a real price on then whole job..

I've already got quad milltek with the abt valance, don't think it looks quite right. Therefore my options are
a. Sell the car
b. Fit new lower r32 rear bumper, valance, insert and refelectors. Which requires a £120 paint and fit job.
c. Screw my eyes up when i walk round back of the car and forget it.
d. Some other combo (I'd rather not).
Option b is being discussed. The outstanding question is whether there are other inserts available .....that don't cost a limb of my first born....NB the upper rear does not need to be changed. It has parking sensors,it is going nowhere.

Another option might be to change just your Milltek rear sections to have different exhaust tips. This would change the look. Although now mine are ceramic coated satin black, they will also be available in silver if you prefer.
The tips are thinner and slash-cut and don't stick out so much. I used to have Milltek straight-cut quads with an Abt and then later the R32 rear with the same quads and now a pre-production Milltek backbox etc.
The version I am running currently is the 'quieter' one and its loudness is inbetween the existing Resonated and Non-Resonated currently available. At the end of this month Milltek are manufacturing a louder version section to put on my car and then after a few weeks of living with it (including a Nurburgring trip) it'll be decided what to offer customers.
A further option is to check if OSIR offer a fibreglass or plastic (preferred) version of their quad exhaust trim which I know fits the R32 'rear spoiler' (correct VW name).
Here are some pics of various stages of mine which may be helpful : -

I find the satin black ceramic tips extremely easy to keep clean and also I think the look is far more subtle but still different. Sorry to stick some expensive carbonfibre under your nose! For me, the quads are still there but not so much in yer face - The slash-cut tips look more possibly 'oem'.
Hope this helps in some way!

Thanks for taking the time to reply Robin, much appreciated.
I am pushing my budget just now, so wouldnt intend to change my milly. Actually have come to like them, though for ages I thought they were too bling.
I will try osir to see if they've got a plastic trim...then faint at the cost and talk to Rich again.

....I know exactly what you mean about the 'bling' factor! I sometimes thought that but only for a short time. I so much prefer the symmetry of pipes each side, though not the way VW have styled the Mk6 GTI rear!
-
Waiting on osir coming back to me with a price for the plastic insert..... They have to mail their supplier.
Didn't have much faith in my vw dealer, who couldn't find the reflector inserts on his system! Not concerned about these they're pennies really and they'll be on the system somewhere.
Only other wrinkle is an mot is due and I need a new tyre as there is the smallest of bulges on one. So bang goes another £150! Not cheap this dubbin' is it?
-
^^^^
The reflectors are a later addition and so may not appear on your dealer's system but their Parts Manager's phone call to MK will acquire you a pair - About £3 each IIRC.
Running any car, not just Dubs, is never cheap - And even more expensive if you frequent forums like this one!
-
Robin, your satin tips look the best by a long way. Makes the others look too fat and makes them look like they come out too far.
Very impressed :happy2:

....Hey! Thanks for the compliment - The tips design is something I suggested to Milltek. I wanted it slimmer and slashed and black, so less in yer face. They had already got a black finish (which I tested previously) but they then improved that to a ceramic. The ceramic is a complete doddle to keep looking clean and doesn't dirty-up so easily anyway. Also the tips don't get so hot if you touch them.
The system does expand its length as much as half-an-inch when hot though - I was surprised to actually see it immediately after a spirited drive.
I'm really looking forward to my louder version!

quick update according to the ttshop...just so the info is in one place should any future member need it.
The price of the DTM R32 x 4 in fibre is £265.68 Inc Vat
The price of this in carbon is £450.00 inc Vat
confusing naming convention there eh...
I have to get myself a new goodyear assymetric as i have bulge in one, then through an MOT, once I've done that I will decide whether to go with this mod.
-

If it helps your decision if you do buy the rear exhaust trim:
You could wrap a fibreglass one in either plain black vinyl or carbonvinyl. The rears don't tend to suffer from stone chips etc.
I think that, apart from available money, it depends what other cosmetic mods you are planning for your car.
:happy2:
-
just get an R32 rear back box on your milly, then r32 bumper then have a full R32 rear!! <a href="http://www.mysmiley.net" title="smileys">(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mysmiley.net%2Fimgs%2Fsmile%2Fcool%2Fcool0016.gif&hash=3d6fd5fb3f7f46e186b8c966551fb7f5040b7558)[/url]
-
not sure that i want that much expense, I will stick with my quads for now and if money allows after the MOT see if Rich's quad c/f insert is still available. If not I will just stick with it and go for some springs and a remap (which I can get for the same money, practically).
-
Well my insert is still availiable for £200
I ought to be charging wayyy more !!??
if TTshop are charging £450inc VAT for the Gloss Carbon Fibre... what are they charging for the Matte Carbon Fibre :scared:

Hi Rich,
As a guide, providing that the item for sale is in good condition, I usually sell things for 50% of their original price plus any shipping costs.
-
Yes shes in PERFECT condition :pomppomp:
Well i'm happy to get £200 for her since shes only kept in a corner gathering dust :sad1:
Would be good to see her sold to someone
-

Then I'd say someone would get a very good deal if they bought it from you.
