I have a factory fit sunroof - which is getting a lot of use in the current weather! - Is any regular maintenance required?
Apart from keeping the obvious bits of track and the seal clean.
Any lubrication required anywhere?
Drainage pipes to be cleaned?
Anything else?
Cant seem to find any info at all.
Thanks

IIRC its in the service schedule. The drainage holes need to be cleaned out and guide rails need lubing every couple of years.
hope this helps.

Thanks Rich. Just where are the drainage holes though?! I've had a look around .........

I replied to this topic rather than start an identical one.
Does anyone have any further info? My handbook doesn't say anything and I would really like the sunroof to keep working in my nine year old car!

Drainage pipe is a pain.
I think there's just the one in the front driver side corner. It follows through a small pipe down the driver side A pillar and out the engine bay eventually spilling out near the front.
They can become unhooked and will flood the car. Happened to me so I had to make an extension piece.
Personally I wouldn't be removing all the trim to clean out the drainage hole unless a leak appeared. You can clean the inlet to the drain at the sunroof area though.

Periodic greasing is your friend for long service life.
Only slight issue is it must be silicon 'sliding mechanism' grease. VAG do their stuff which is expensive (about £30!!), p/n - G 000 450 02, but is bloody good stuff.
Alternatively, this works well too - http://www.amazon.co.uk/LM-SILICONE-GREASE-558-57-16-Content/dp/B00C1IV1MA
Both are made specifically for sliding mechanisms, but is equally effective on door hinges, locks, catches etc. It's more slippery than normal grease and doesn't wash away, or attract grit.

Many thanks Luke, any chance of a picture?

I've used silicone spray on any part that moves, as I that's what I have. Seems to work ok.
I clean the whole sunroof area out regularly - dust, grit etc.
I clean the 'felt' surround with APC, especially if any green shows over winter - and again, lubricate with silicone spray.
I use the roof almost every day and it opens/tilts with no problems.... so far!
I would be keen to see a pic of where the drainage hole is, as I can't find it!

These are photos of the A pillar removed and the cone shaped attachment (tec-7 top) I used to channel the water from the hose into the outlet pipe.

Just got a quote from VW MK for the sunroof grease: £28.99 inc. VAT
Another option is: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Liqui-Moly-3312-Silicon-Grease-Clear/dp/B00295DBQE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1438687951&sr=8-4&keywords=liqui+moly+grease
£14.04.
Is the VW grease worth the price? or the liqui moly will suffice?
Advice needed.

That grease is cheaper on Ebay mate,
£6.99 free delivery .

One question that's related...does anyone else have a slight bump/gap where the rubber seal meets at the rear of the glass on the outside?
Not sure if mine has lifted or if this is anything to worry about

Yeah it's very common. Happened to my last polo, this GTI and my friends GTI. Never caused a leak so I never went at it.

I have this too, slightly raised in middle of the seal.. Very annoying doesn't seem to be causing any issue's though.

The liqui moly silicon grease arrived. Applied on the rails and all seems to slide nice and normally. Hope it stays OK for long time now..
