Title: Need a new key :(
Post by: Degudodger on July 23, 2013, 10:15:14 pm
I can confirm key fob electrics + 30c wash do not mix. I now need a replacement second key.

After speaking with VW they wanted to change me nearly £200 to provide a replacement key and code it, surely there must be a more cost effective method. As I have the key blade can I buy the immobiliser part (attached to the key blade) get that coded by VW then program the central locking fob with a new uncoded key off ebay or am I best getting both parts from VW?

does the still start the car?

would be surprised that the transponder would be damaged by water

remotes can be bought on ebay for around £15

Hi Eddie

I can start the car but it dies 2-3 seconds later so can only imagine so it looks like the immobiliser is goosed. Scan from VCDS confirms this. :(

As it looks like i need a new transponder i was thinking about getting this and ordering a replacement transponder and keyblade from VW, they point blankly refuse to provide just the transponder- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1K0-959-753-G-434-MHZ-NEW-VW-THREE-3-BUTTON-FLIP-KEY-FOB-BLANK-/180752309933?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a15ad5ead

Any thoughts guys.

In summary. Can i just purchase a programmed immobiliser transponder (so the lower half of the key fob) and use a cheaper central locking buttons section from an ebay bought key?

Find it hard to believe you need the transponder but this answers most question:-

Check out this video on YouTube:

Tell me about it!

Had another look at the transponder and you can clearly see moisture inside the glass casing so can only assume it had been cracked for a while and it took a 45 minute wash at 30% to kill it  :sad1:

Just to clear this up. Vw take upto 3 weeks and cost approx 80 quid to get the flip key part with cut blade and transponder. Vcds and pin numbers alone will not program the key. A good auto locksmith would generally charge 110-170 for the job of supplying a spare remote key.
