Title: Decat Downpipe question
Post by: burt2000 on July 25, 2013, 11:13:04 am
Hey guys,

Are these all much of a muchness as there seems to be a massive variation in price?

Im currently after a 3" tappered decat downpipe so that i can go to stage 2 on my Mk5 GTI and have found the likes of the one linked below around £160

has anyone else got these or similar ebay ones and find they do the job just fine? surely as long as they are welded properly they are all essentially just a 3" piece of stainless steel

Cheers

Baz

The grade of stainless steel varies quite a lot. Some will look very good quality when they arrive, but after a winter of salt they show the poor quality of the steel up and rust badly. Also some have stainless piping, but a mild steel flange up to the turbo.

Blueflame and BCS both do very good quality downpipes and they will also supply a reducer pipe so you can use your standard cat back.

Also gives you the option of fitting a 3" cat back later on

The pipewerx one fits onto the standard cat back, it has a reducer to connect it upto the standard cat back. Its the one i will probably get.

Check out the one on eBay, it's what I have fitted. Cost sub £130, fits spot on to the standard rear section and my car made and extra 15 bhp on r-techs rollers.

have you a link to it mate? i emailed pipe werx and he conformed that it will fit a standard cat back but if i can get one off ebay that does the same job for half the price then its a no brainer

I have a volant intake on the way bought from a fellow member then all i need is the decat downpipe and ill be good to go for stage 2 :happy2:

The seller I bought from doesn't seem to have a listing anymore but this is no doubt exactly the same: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-MK5-GTI-2-0-TURBO-STAINLESS-STEEL-3-DECAT-EXHAUST-DOWNPIPE-/220959128378?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AGolf&hash=item337230bb3a

However, ignore the price shown as they deliberately do this when out of stock (usually 139 I think). Just contact them and ask when they are due in.
