Sunday morning bump :-) Anybody had issues like this before? Could it be can bus related or hopefully a loose connection on the ecu?
-
sounds like a wiring issue on the drivetrain CAN wiring
-
Thanks for the reply eddie. A couple of questions A - where do i start lookking and B - would this stop vag com reading the ecu? Cheers.
-
All the no signal/ no communication errors to me means no power going somewhere.
disconnect battery an reconnect? Prob wont fix it but might reboot something.
Its weird how the car can be fine, drive ok then after turning it back on not start!
You don't have a after market immobilizer or like the APR maps a "lock out" feature on your map?
-
No car is totally standard. It is wierd as there was no warning at all, no lights on the dash on the way home from work whatsoever. The only thing i did was jet wash it on the way to work but it started fine on my way home...Strange :surprised:
-
Ive just disconnected the battery and tried it again but still the same only now the steering wheel light is staying on amber???
-
Ive just disconnected the battery and tried it again but still the same only now the steering wheel light is staying on amber???
That's normal after battery disconnect.
-
Oh thanks. Ringing the dealer i got it from first thing tomorow, hopefully they will be able to help :scared:
-
Seen this before where the radio wiring /dash wiring was pulling down the Can have you been doing or had any work done lately?
If not you'll have to disconnect each module on the gateway to trace the area where the short is consuming all the power!
-
Great thanks for the advice. How do I go about disconnecting each device from the can? Ta. Oh and no work has been done at all. The only thing I did previously was to jet wash it the morning before it failed. I did wash under the arches quite thoroughly so water may have got in somewhere.
-
Start with the most common failure items ecu, instrument cluster etc and re-scan then check to see if the other items communicate with each other.
If its the ecu - then check the exhaust sensor wiring hasn't burnt through / was a common area if exhaust mods have been under taken.
-
Ok but how and where should I disconnect them from? Also the car is totally standard as far as I know so no exhaust mods have been done.
-
Most of the items just need unplugged i- f you can reach them however, not everyone is simple to get to!
The cluster is easy start there -
http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3604801-DIY-hi-line-cluster&p=44436968&viewfull=1#post44436968
Just go to the section which shows the cluster being removed on the link and as I say rescan and see what shows up each time.
-
Ok thanks once again for your help.
-
Having no joy at all with this! Need to get it to the dealers but as ive got no breakdown cover im screwed. Anyone got a car transporter they want to lend me lol
-
Battery fully juiced? You've probably checked that already and I know it seems obvious, but when I did my ABS purge a while back, it depleted the battery just enough to give loads of warnings on the dash, car wouldn't turn, error codes via VCDS... quick charge and all was right with the world.
More than likely not this, but always worth trying the simple things. Best of luck with it mate :happy2:
-
Yea battery seems fine although the green indicator lamp on the battery isnt illuminated. The car turns over fine just wont fire up
-
This makes 2 of us. Its happened to me, I jetted my car and it died when i got home. Its the ECU, you must of got water in.
When you turn your key, do you get the engine light on (I didnt). Try borrowing another ECU and plug in and turn the key (you should get the engine light but wont start cos of the immo), this way you can make sure before sourcing a ECU.
-
No i got the traction control and tyre pressure warning light. Also the lights for dsg were all flashing. I had no readings on the temp gauge and my fans are running very fast.
-
All the lights come on apart from the engine light (not sure if thats the correct name), the orange/yellow one on the left if the dial. Because if the ECU is dead it can't communicate with it therefore no indication.
-
When i try and scan with vag com it keeps trying to connect but drops out almost as soon as it manages to tries to talk to the ecu???

Hi guys I was wondering if anyone actually found a cure for this? I’ve got exactly the same issue that started a little while ago but haven’t had a chance to look at it till now. I’ve checked the fuse box for water. Replaced the relay on the ops under the steering wheel. I’m running into a bit of a dead end and wondered if anyone had any more info on this thread?
