Title: Air Ride on a 1.9tdi 50mm strut
Post by: TheBIGJAYY on August 01, 2013, 01:42:13 pm
hey guys, been having a look around on a few different places but getting a little confused.

never really looked at air suspension before, but now im really fancying it. i have a mk5 golf 1.9tdi which have the 50mm front struts.

has any1 had air ride fitted to a mk5 with 50mm struts as most places only seem to do the 55mm front struts..

could any1 point me in the right direction as to which air ride kit would suite my car? ideally i would want the auto level function and preset ride heights depending what roads i am on. i know a few of you guys are experienced with air ride so figured i would ask the people with experience!

thanks in advance.  :happy2:

His 1.9tdi was static, and his GTI has 55mm struts...

50mm struts are available as they use Mk4 struts with Mk5 top mounts. Who are you looking to get air ride with?

The other alternative is, as above, get new hubs  :happy2:

i have read somewhere that it is possible to have air ride for the 50mm struts but i just cant find them anywhere...

not 100% sure on who i would go with, but with it being air ride i would want good quality kit as i dont want anything to break in the future!  :scared:

Changing the hubs is easy peasy! especially if your changing the struts at the same time to fit the air ride.
I personnaly find it easier to get the strut out the hub with the entire leg out of the car

Yes as I originally wrote somewhere ages ago, you can put air on Mk5 with 50mm hubs with Mk4 struts and Mk5 top mounts.
My buddy Stu did on his 1.9 Mk5 with 50mm hubs.

Some sh*te struts come with 50mm bottoms but I wouldn't bother with those, either use the Mk4 fronts or change the hubs.. costs like £50 these days.

Air is so common these days, I know a guy who has his air on 5 year finance at 26 quid a month...  :stupid: :stupid: :stupid:

Static will be more popular soon!

I am in the same boat, currently running 50mm struts. I plan to upgrade to the 55mm units and also go for a set of R32 brakes all round as well at the same time.
