Before you go out splashing your cash, find someone with a vcds cable from the vcds forum ( http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,120.msg1061.html#msg1061 ) and let them scan the car for the stored fault code(s) then post them (the code(s) ) up here.
