Title: Abs bleeding

I read somewhere not sure but I think it was on Ross tech website that to bleed the abs via vcds all 4 wheels need to be off the ground .  Can anyone confirm this ?

I changed my pump and alex at aks bled my brakes without vcds. He did the one man method.

Bleeding brakes and the ABS cycle are two different things.  The latter you use VCDS to guide you through the process when someone is sat in the drivers seat fighting the ABS pump, it's a good little workout....n.b make sure you have a FULL battery or expect the potential of an empty one once it's completed.

As for all 4 wheels being off ground, I'm not 100% sure, although we did ours with the fronts end up then the rears up... A LOT of black crap came out.

IIRC it's part of the brake bleed service at VW, but most probably don't do it... ask them and watch if possible. :happy2:

Thanks  chaps i just wanted to know if its necessary, I just checked Ross tech website this is what it says

There are certain test conditions that must be met before doing this procedure:

Vehicle must on a lift or safe jack stands with no wheels touching the ground

Ignition should be in the "On" position
 
I guess I,ll wait and get it up on ramps

When I did mine it was on a ramp but that was by coincidence, I guess it is mentioned as a safety backup suggestion?
