Been advised today that my turbo is worn, 160k on the clock, so its had some use, Saturday I overtook and halfway round the lorry, power dropped and I could only get to 2000 revs all the way home, after I turned my golf off then on again I could get above 2000 revs again, the question is new or refurbed turbo ?? (2.0 TDI BKD engine 2005)

Hi
I had a problem on my previous car a 1.9 GT TDI. The car kept going in to "limp home mode" safety mode. I was told its my turbo after the car was Vagcomed.
I replaced the turbo with a new unit and still no luck, did a leak check and found nothing. After a lot of money and time i traced it to the plug on the intercooler being broken and the car reading a false turbo pressure.
You can check the turbo by pulling off the intake or exhaust and checking for shaft play.
Hope this helps good luck

time for a hybrid upgrade :happy2:
-
I second that, get a hybrid :happy2:

It's been mapped, and quite happy with the performance/economy trade off at the mo, other than the hybrid turbo, any other parts or work need doing ??
Thanks for the info Fransnz, will look into that option :happy2:

are you sure the turbo has gone
-
Not 100%, but been serviced and M.O.T'd today, and l mentioned Saturdays episode, and was advised that I may have a vein that has moved/jammed (forgive the lack of terminology) that would suggest a worn turbo, really don't wonna lose power mid overtake, so would take his (well respected word) and look into replacing it

depending on who the refurb turbo is from - go refurb!
look at gapturbo (global auto parts) if your mechanics allowing you to supply the turbo etc.
