Title: Tyre Shine
Post by: xxx_mojo_xxx on August 24, 2009, 09:33:33 pm
Can anyone recommend a tyre shine gel/liquid (inc. online shop) that doesn't disappear after a day?

Thanks in advance.

Thumbs up from me as well on this.  I also got the applicator to work it in to stop the plastic look some tyre dressings give.  I just give the tyres a quick wipe round with an old sponge whilst snow foam is working.  once car is clean and dry apply 1 or 2 applications and it last around 2-3 weeks

Tyre Slik is also good and lasts well. Being an spray, it's also easy to apply. :happy2:

It's won the Auto Express product award for several years.

It's made by Car Plan and I think Halfords still sell it.

Marinated Dog's Piss.

NOW will people believe I'm not a detailer!?

Actually [pronounced: "Ecktooelly" in posh accent], I might try some tyre shine occasionally when my new OZ LeggyRita's arrive. But I'll want something which lasts longer than 3 days!

P.S. - Claire, do you and Gary know about our Ring Trip on first weekend of October?

Zaino Z16 Tyre Gloss  :happy2:

Silicone is bad for the rubber on your tyres, and makes them go brown over time as well as drying them out.

Verdin you're right on the silicone score. Siicone is just bad news all round for a detailer.

Also it's worth noting there are two meguairs being spoken of in this thread.

1. Meg's endurance tyre gel - in my opinion the better one. It's in a bottle with a flip cap for application with a brush or sponge applicator. It's purple and last quite a while

2. Meg's hot shine tyre gel. I think it's stillcalled that. It's in a spray bottle and it's a clear liquid. It does look quite similar to the above when applied but doesn't last half as long.

There both available from halfrauds too. Hope this help. And sorry to those who think this Is stating the obvious. I don't wanna teach granny to suck eggs ;)

I have been using for about 4 months now with the applicator.  On average get 2-3 weeks of shiny tyres is very impressive.

The only other one I have used is the AG one which I hated as it used to spray all over the place.

Hi Red.
The good thing about Z16, it just makes the tyres look like they are new. No shiny sticky nonesense. Glossy tyres, whats all that about?!?

Smells great, lasts about 3 weeks to a month and has the consistency of milk so you only need apply very little. I've had the same bottle for well over a year now and its just under half full, that includes doing other friends and families cars.

I'm pleased you are giving "Throbbing Red" the attention it deserves  :happy2:

Ive never used Z16, thats a first, i dont know how ive come to try a zaino Product.

I must admit im not a huge fan of the megs stuff...but longevity was the name of the game in this thread.

I do prefer the "milky" type tyre shines, but normally they hardly last, and if it rains....bye bye! haha!

My favs is Gloss it and Swissvax Pneu...but they are hellish expensive for what they are and dont last.

Maybe i should be trying some Z16! ;)

Hi JPC,
Its out of stock at CYC,

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/zaino/zaino-z-16-perfect-tire-gloss/prod_476.html

But I've found a decent place to get some from, they have a decent stock level.

http://www.zainoeurope.com//index.php/zaino/z-16-perfect-tire-gloss/p_13.html

It is very good, I like the fact it just makes tyres look brand new, and not fake shiny. Its quite like the Swissvax Pneu but not as expensive.

Can't go too far wrong with Megs but apply sparingly
Chemical Guys New Look Trim/Tyre gel also good and similar effect to megs
My favourite is Swissvax Pneu - very durable and a natural sheen rather than a bling/greasy shine.  :happy2:

Robin - dogs pi$$ does leave a nice wet look but it is corrosive and will cause white worming of Monza II's faster than a whores draws. May be that's what caused yours to fail   :rolleye:

How the hell have you found pneu to be durable? It won't last more than 3 days on mine. Mind you I do a lot of miles

Used the megs today...it's thick as glue...  tried using a cloth didn't get very far.  Ended up using a toothbrush to spread it.  Looks nice and smells great.

Will post some photos and let you guys know how long it lasts.

I used to use a foam tyre shine applicator but now prefer using a Swissvax pneu brush

A thin paint brush will do the trick though

I use the Hot Tyres stuff from Megs and find using a Paintbrush to apply it lasts really well, gets into all the tyre design too, definitely a good applicator,

not really rating this megs endurance stuff, my tyres do work hard as my life is spent on twisties but its only lasting a couple of days

Sounds like the megs is good. But as an alternative i can highly recommend Armor All Tire Shine Gel (German Brand). Will last ages and ages and its cheap and comes with the applicator. I get the same results as the megs, judging from those pics :happy2:

http://www.wilcodirect.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_58&products_id=7982.

Also i dont know if you guys have tried the Armor All Polishing cloth (£3.59) They are amazing! I never thought i could get so giddy over cloths, till i bought one of these! They are massive and are the thickest, softest and best polishing cloths i have ever seen!

http://www.wilcodirect.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_55&products_id=7984

and no i dont work for armor all or motosave (wilco)

Considering the price I have to admit I'm not totally satisfied with the Megs Endurance stuff.  Initial application provides an exceptionally high gloss shine...but soon after a day or two subsides into a matt finish.

What it is good at, is inhibiting the tyre from ending up with the "bone dry" look.

Post by: v2brett on October 01, 2009, 10:45:42 pm
i use the AG vinyl and rubber care on my tyres, its the same `milky` looking product as the AG tyre shine but seems to be more shiny.  i apply it by squirting it onto a small brush then paint it on the tyre and  i cant comment on it lasting as i put it on every week and dont travel too far.
It doesnt seem cause a kind of greay build up on the tyres like some ive used in the past

I used to use Turtlewax nanotech stuff. Smells better than the Megs endurance gel but very messy to use.

As for applications, I've always applied tyre gel, given it time to 'set in' drying off the excess and repeating a second time. Found it lasts longer. Obviously this is several hours before I drive.
