If your painting the calipers, consider doing the disc hub silver or black, makes a huge difference.
-

Yeah was nice to get a base with so many, only wanted xenons and leather really.
Fancy the 18"s myself can get the car a wee bit lower and i think 19s are myb a wee bit big for Mk5s but again that my opinon, and there are alot which pull 19's off really well.
-
So today I had a spare couple hours so I decided to paint the brakes Red again as they where previously black.
-Wirebrushed and washed.
-Sanded down using 400
-Blow off
-Painted Red using hammerite and clips where painted silver.
I intend to upgrade the brakes at some stage but this will tidy the OEM ones up for now.
Pictures. :D
Enjoy :happy2:

Fitted the rear Kw's today along with the 18" bbs chs, :happy2:
Had to make a stop on fitting the front coil-overs as my bolts on my topmount started turning the nut (Badly rusted) and even with a pair of vice grips we still couldn't get them turned, so ive sourced some new bolts and the KW's already have top mounts fitted so I intend to cut the old bolts off and drop the strut out just
Hopefully should have piictures up tomorrow evening after a wee wash :)

Looking good!! When you say about rubbing etc. on hard corners... How low is it (approx) getting me some pescaras which are 8j and will be on sportlines (-25mm) and my biggest fear is rubbing...
-
^^^^ You'll be fine running Pescara's as they're 7.5" ET51, Eibach Sportlines will only lower you by around 20-25mm MAX so no rubbing at all.
OP, car looks really nice, great pic BTW.............
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fx446%2Fni-euro%2F1380113_616704191698649_1178439797_n_zpsa95f9d87.jpg&hash=f34e65a0a77d4f9ce4a994c750995d9cadbaabb0)
-
Getting the ones off GNJ, MC.. So they're 8" ET44.. But long as we are good that's a lot off the mind, thanks.
-
^^^^ You'll be fine with those wheels (and Graeme's a great chap to deal with). The BBS VZ's have 13mm poke over the standard Pescara's/Monza's, gives a much better stance too and loads of room if you want to add a BBK, win win. You won't get any issues running Eibach's and if you get ANY rubbing on hard cornering just remove the arch screw and also push the arch liner in/up a wee bit, makes all the difference.
:happy2:

Haven't updated this in a long time.
So as the story goes, since my last update. I basically drove this car like it should be I installed a cat back exhaust an intake and put MPSS on all round and really enjoyed the car. Over time daily abuse and driving it hard everywhere started to take its toll the arches became very rusted and also the boot lid.
My current update involves new suspension, new wheels, big wings and stage2. Currently I have bought the following.
- 19 X 8.5 ABT
- 110mm H&R ultralows.
- SRS wings
- Edition lip and rear bumper parts.
- Miltek down pipe and decat
- Servicable parts including, sparkplugs, camfollower, PCV delete, top mounts, front wheel bearings and drop links.
Plans are to fit everything and paint the car again. Looking to install a brake upgrade of some kind also.
I'll update with pictures when I return home.
-
Nice read, I love seeing other Reflex Silver golf's in transformation :happy2: get the photos up fella

Also thinking about relocating the battery to the boot. Just searched a couple of threads and people recommending 4 gauge wiring? Anyone done this before or have any pictures?
I ordered a flush de-wiper kit from Kill All Wipers last night! Hopefully my weekend task. With the weather at the moment not sure it's all that sensible though :signLOL:
-
I think my weekend task will involve relocating the battery and a few other mods to clean the bay up!
-
That sits Really well! How much did you lower it by? Im looking at either the kw v2 or v3's....with team dynamics 1.2's
-
Hi Matt , that was my v2 completely screwed down and the rear adjuster down full also . They were down there max what that was I can't remember .

do love a low reflex silver gti

Decided to clean up the bay and relocate the battery to the boot, just waiting on a few more part to complete the relocation but should have it done mid week.
Removed all the plastics trays and rerouted some cables and looms to clean things up abit. Still some more work todo waiting on more loom tape to be deliveried.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Faaronsloane%2FMobile_Uploads%2FIMAG2456_zpspzir8dui.jpg&hash=a8846af16c1c5e92ca669dcb495d408635644bc0)
I'll update more when I have cable ran to boot etc.
Also removed the filler neck for the washer bottle, I've capped this off and I'll use a flexible funnel to fill when required.
I also rerouted the carbon canister pipe work and mounted this behind the wing just about the washer bottle, used the factory bracket so it can be removed with ease.

Also modified my factory engine cover to fit intake, plan is to smooth it where required and paint with textured paint to look factory.

So couple more parts arrived today.
New drop links and battery tray. Got battery tray installed into the boot, everything fits really well, just waiting on cable and new battery and then put it in for good.
Hopefully will install new drop links on Saturday with new front bearings then that's all the pre MOT work completed. Just freshen up brakes while I source some big brakes. Still currently waiting on SRS wings and edition front spoiler. Hopefully receive them in next couple days.

Awesome work buddy, is the battery staying in the spare wheel well?

Have you got a link for the splitter?
-
Awesome work buddy, is the battery staying in the spare wheel well?
Yeah that's were it will be staying I levelled and bolted the new battery tray down, plan to trim the insert which holds the jack, compressor etc around it so it looks somewhat OEMish

Have you got a link for the splitter?
222000596103 That's the eBay item number there, hope that helps! :happy2:

Very nice, do you think it will do much on weight distribution, I know it's not the heaviest thing in the world but every little helps

What do you think about the srs tec wings? I still need to get some

I've no idea, I can image it will help slightly, but it's more for looks and cleaning up the bay I'm doing it if I'm honest.

Delivery was around a week, they fit great, all panel gaps etc are spot on, only thing I'd suggest is bolting on the bumper bracket with some small bolts and wide washers As the standard fixings won't work. Buy them direct from SRS tec as its around £40-£50 cheaper than buying from a UK supplier.
I can't wait to get them painted and wheels on!
-
Gives you a nice space where the battery was to extend your intake with a 90 bend and relocate the filter further from the engine with a decent heat shield too

I actually cut the 90 off and put the filter back on so its closer to the engine, think it looks cleaner, sort of look I'm trying to achieve.

Update, fitted PCV deleted and trail fitted wheels to see what the wings gave me on front clearance, May have to shave a few mm off the fronts to pull them in a bit, also waiting on edition rear and bought a set of R8 calipers .

Couple more updates, left my wheels off at a local engineering firm to get 4mm lathed off the rear to increase the ET to ensure they fit better on the front and rear, 4mm will allow the rear to pull in and allow me to drop the car more at the front.
Also took delivery of my front brakes, just have to source disks which shouldn't be too hard in talks with Kyle of the forum here. All is coming together nicely. Once I get the brakes on and wheels back sending car off to paint before I head off to UD.

So another quick update,
Got brakes printed and mounted, bought a ramair filter to replace existing, got black caps for coolant and washer bottle at UD. Also got wheels painted. Run into an issue with the wheels, the engineering firm i got to mill the wheels down 4mm took them down un-level which almost looked like they took 4mm off one side and 2-3mm off the other side creating an angle that i never noticed until the wheels were put on the wheel balancer. Issue was sorted in the end up and with freshly painted wheels it was a nightmare :scared:
Quick picture below of the car before i send it off to the paint shop. Get the high adjusted and the rear camber sorted all should be ok.

Aww no, just painting it the same colour with a black grill, playing with the idea of doing the inserts in the splitter and rear bumper untied grey the same colour as the wheels but unsure yet.

How well did the wings fit ??
Pretty much perfect! I trailed them on before the car goes for paint and I got them sitting how I would be happy with them. I'd say when there put on after paint there should be no issues :happy2:

So i picked the car up yesterday from paint, please ignore the height of the car, getting it ready for MOT. Got a set of Revo engine mounts also so i have them in now also (No pics installed yet)

Very nice looking motor, how much was the paint job for the Skirts and rear valance? Did you have it smoothed out before spray?
I'm in exactly the same boat and really want to body colour the bumper and Skirts but don't want a cowboy do it

I painted the whole car apart from the roof, cost me £1200.00 but i worked with the guy for a couple years doing bodywork so hes always been very good with prices for me. Im really please with his work he painted my last car and i was more than happy, only downfall is the car was stinking when i got it back but i dont mind spending a few hours cleaning it anyway.

Thanks bud! There 19x8.5 ET 35 but ive lathed 4mm off the rear of them so there ET39 now? I believe its 1ET per 1mm but i could be wrong. they sit great at the front but i need to adjust the camber on the rear abit as i want to lower it more.

That's some nice fitment figures there! I have just fit 18x8 ET 35. Nice and flush at the font, rears could be spaced a few mm out more but would need raising if I did to avoid scraping. Think I will be looking at modifying the liners in the quest for more lows soon.

Very very nice mate..
Thanks Bud! Pretty happy with it at the moment, painted behind the grill matt black and open fogs to tidy all that area up, going to lower it more this evening and paint the inner arches black also, as the SRS wings have a inner panel which protects the car acts like an extended arch liner. Also will notch the frame too at some stage before the weekend.
