Post by: dan930 on August 19, 2013, 05:24:36 am
hi everyone, brought a golfR 5weeks ago & it has been brilliant,im on holiday abroad at the moment so left the car with my sister...she hasnt driven the car for 2days but it wont start in the morning, its like the battery has gone flat but its ok if she jump started it...all is good until she tried starting the car again...was wondering would it need a new battery as its a 2010 car....also just to point out that when i brought the car 5 weeks ago ive not driven it for 6-7 days as too busy at work & it started fine...
posted up the same thread on the golfR forum but no replys yet??

Does sound like a possible duff battery if jumping cures all ills.
Jump it and take it to a garage to test the battery.

Ideally it needs load testing with a meter to check. When you purchased the car did it come with any warranty?

Batt is cheapest fix so get this checked out pronto. If its not that it could be the alternator which charges the batt. If it is the alternator you would be better off re-conditioning it as it will be pricey getting another one.

Failing these two fixes it may be the starter motor which would be the worst and means at sometime soon jump starting wont work.

So get to a garage!

You need to check the voltage of the battery in the first instance then when you get it started recheck again. If the alternator is correctly charging you'll see a voltage of ~14V at the battery terminals.
